Many pianists played Chopin beautifully. He played not only beautifully, but also with a touch of sadness which is one of Chopin’s spiritual essences. His playing is like telling a story and touching my heart. I can’t help crying.

I know that his second round performance was not quite as extraordinary, but honestly I think it's criminal that he didn't make it past that round. His performance in round one was best from among all performers. Hands down. It was simply transcendental. The Ballade even better than some of the great historic performances recorded by masters in years past. Some of the jury's final decisions were utterly mind boggling, which I guess maybe explains the whole fiasco. At least the judging was consistently rotten. That Eva Gevorgyan's performances (e.g., her sonata) were deemed inferior to some of the ultimate winners is one obvious example. I think overlooking Kai-Min Chang and Eva Gevorgyan should rank right up there with the Pogorelich controversy of 1980. Enough to dissuade generations of aspiring geniuses from participating in competitions ruled by senile traditionalists. Mr. Chang, if you happen to look here, I hope you don't become discouraged. Your sublime performance is not diminished by the misguided judgment of the blind. Perform for the people. And for yourself. Don't worry about the competitions. Music does not exist for juries.
