Se enamoró de Grindelwald tras la muerte de su madre y descuidó el cuidado de su hermana, lo que acabó provocando su muerte. Venció a Grindelwald en 1945 y luego tuvo que enfrentarse a Lord Voldemort, luchando así contra los dos magos tenebrosos más terribles de la historia. Destruyó horrocruxes, planeó su muerte a manos de Severus Snape y dejó el camino preparado para que Harry Potter pudiera vencer a Voldemort.
