Hello everyone and welcome back!
I tried to make another "ASMR" style video, but the sounds of traffic from the road by my apartment is just too loud. So, this will be a silent video. Please enjoy these calming pottery visuals :)
Tools & materials used in this video:
Clay Highwater's Helios (porcelain)
Carving Knife Mudtools Petal Knife #5
(mudtools.com/p...)
Sponge Large Elephant Ear Sponge
(www.theceramic...)
Banding Wheel I got mine as a gift. Pretty sure it is a cake banding wheel, but here is a link to a bunch of different banding wheel choices:

I like how you do the bottom of your pots. Sharp cut lines smoothed. Reminds me of how a river wares down rough edges.

Hey, you know those three little dots up in the top right hand corner of each KZbin video? You can control the speed of the video you’re watching if you click on those three dots. I absolutely LOVED this video….. at 1.5 normal speed. The grace and flow of movement was like a gorgeous dance. But at normal speed it was making me antsy which is the opposite of its intended purpose. KZbin is brilliant!

@@vanifarron Went a couple days ago to a place where I bought a little ceramic plate. Very beautiful and with an intricate pattern painted on it, which must've taken a long time to accomplish. Some dudebro "real man" walked in with his family and proceeded to talk smack about the prices of the ceramics to the cashier, even though the lady made it clear she doesn't get to decide what gets sold at what price. For some reason, the guy pretty much also insulted the cashier, as if he wasn't already enough of a jerk. I bought the plate and tipped the lady to try and make up for it, but man, what weird guy that was.

A whole reason of going there was to learn how to do something and sometimes they are very open and sometimes they are not.. Thank you for showing and sharing.. I just tried cutting this type of thing because of you I just put on 4 feet to a cup .. Very satisfying to try

Did you use an extruder to arrive at the original shape? I'm weird and I love to trim - so I was thinking of trying something exactly like this - not to this level of expertise of course.
@bruhe
@bruhe 3 жыл бұрын
Opps.. nevermind haha. I didn't watch far enough - turns out you threw the mug shape and then came back to carve it. Fantastic!
@TheCatWhoAteTheCanary
@TheCatWhoAteTheCanary 3 жыл бұрын
@bruhe If you wanted to, you can probably make the shape itself out of coils or have an extruder make a hollowed out form to carve from. I haven't made much using an extruder but I have made a cylinder from one. My only work using an extruder was a "rain totem" where you have a cylinder shape put a bottom, drill into it and insert spikes with slip pointing inward and put in many small clay beads finally adding the top, decorating and firing as desired. Ultimately when you flip upside down it will make a rain like sound. As soon as you mentioned the extruder I imagined a very nice rain totem carved like this kinda making it look like waves or raindrops

Hi! I am also a potter! But I am a student in college so I have a lot left to learn! In this video are you carving when the clay is leather-hard or bone-dry? I am just curious:)
@TheCatWhoAteTheCanary
@TheCatWhoAteTheCanary 3 жыл бұрын
@Meg Hurley it would have to be leather hard. If it was bone dry it would be too hard and ready to go into the kiln. Bone dry would mean there is no water left and it would either create a lot of dust while trying to carve it or it would break under the pressure of attempting to carve. Bone dry also makes it difficult if you are trying to rehydrate it by adding water directly it might become into slip instead of leather hard. If you ever have a piece that becomes too hard to carve but is still considered leather hard just spray it and cover in a plastic bag so it slowly distributes the water inside as it becomes slightly humid (like a greenhouse the water is trapped inside). If you ever have a piece that has really become bone dry but you want to revive it for whatever reason you can put it on top of a large wooden panel with a bowl of water off to the side and seal it fully in plastic somewhere warm, very slowly the water can make it humid in the bag and the bone dry piece can become leather hard (do not directly wet bone dry pieces because they will most likely become damaged) its also important to note to not have the plastic touching the piece because condensation buildup can drip down onto the bone hard work and damage it as well.
