Speaking of Dark Souls 2, I realized a big part of why it's controversial, it's because how it handles enemy placement and difficulty differs fairly drastically in comparison to the other dark souls games, in that dark souls 2 more often relies on more enemies than harder ones, leading to an entirely different experience

This, absolutely this. And also most of the bosses were just people in armor and most were boring to fight. Though Darklurker looked really cool and Sir Alonne and the Fume Knight were fun fights, they don't make up for the rest of the boring bosses. Not to say that some of these boring bosses weren't difficult, they were just never interesting and at worst just frustrating. Any relief I got from beating it was quickly removed when I realized I still had to slog through the game. I can get why some people like the game, but trying to say "it has the best boss fights" triggers me a little lol.

@@77dinokid I'm not saying other games don't have bad boss fights. There's the Bed of Chaos that's considered by most people to be the worst boss in the entire series not being in DS2. However, the ratio of good bosses to bad bosses is the worst in DS2 (and Elden Ring has just a TON of optional bosses and a lot of them are versions of over world enemies or replays of other bosses. I'm not really sure if it's better, but it at least felt better)

I don’t have a problem with lots of enemies. I have a problem with I-framed being tied to a stat. Adaptability is dogshit.

@@SunLovinSolaire Right, I forgot about this. I played primarily ranged sorcerer because of this. In other games I tend to grab a greatsword (not ultra greatsword personally) and sometimes spells as a backup (pyromancy in DS1 and honestly didn't bother on DS3. Incantations in Elden Ring) and two-hand the sword, using dodges as my primary means of avoiding attacks rather than shields (Probably a holdover from my time in MH.) To be fair, I tried to lookup as little as possible so I didn't realize until after I finished that the reason the i-framing felt so different is because I never leveled adaptability. I just figured it was another dumb design choice, like making the estus flask heal over time. Hell, I played thousands of hours of monster hunter before dark souls, so I figured they just wanted to go the limited i-frame route, but didn't bother with generous telegraphing like MH gives you.

Thoughts on the conversation up to 16:30 I don't personally think DS2 and especially Scholar of the first sin is a great souls game for the series. Too much ganking for the sake of ganking and most of the bosses were boring in design and in the fight. Kaif saying "it's the one I have the most memories from" I totally get. For example MegaMan X6 is still one of my favorite games in the X series despite it being regarded as one of the worst (and would be the worst if X7 didn't exist). However, I have a lot of early memories tied to it playing it at a young age and still feel good playing it. It has LOTS of problems and I can still say that objectively it is not a good game, but it's still my favorite out of the series. And finally, Stan saying DS2 has the best boss fights. Stan... Stan... No. That's just wrong. It has maybe 2 good boss fights and they're both DLC, and you mentioned both of them. The boss fights aren't bad but if you're going to compare to the rest of the series then you're just wrong. None of them are really "Bed of Chaos" bad but I wouldn't call them best of the series. I know this is a subjective point, but nah, you're just wrong Stan :P

I personally really enjoyed dark souls 2 but I'm also coming from a tinted lens given it was the game that got me into fromsoft no hit runs, I've sunk probably over 2000 hours into DS2 at this point and while I agree its probably the weakest in the series I would never say its a bad game.
