Sup man, watched this review before and after watching the season and I wanted to say thank you cuz you pretty much put me on to one of my new favorite seasons since I skipped over this one as a kid wandering for sentai on KZbin. To not keep things long, the character interactions and the cast were some things I liked. I think the show really hits its stride towards the mid 20’s to early 30’s episodes with Asuka and Mahoros story as well as Ryoga feuding with Mikoto. And speaking on Ryoga I think he’s an underrated red in comparison to the next couple of reds after him that are somewhat loud personalities, like Ban, Jan, and Sosuke. The single father story is also something cool although I think they could’ve done more, anyways that’s all I got lol

All in all, I’d say the shows best moments make up for *some* of its flaws... AbareKiller is worth the watch. Certainly, if you’ve never seen Abaranger, this is a character that will blow your mind.

I just finished watching this (out of my usual order I know, but I needed something to binge watch while my daughter went to football practice) and I really enjoyed it. Not that I'm big on romance but I found Asuka and Mahoro's relationship to have believable chemistry. The core trio have varied and easily identifiable personalities, as a contrast to the Red / Blue / Yellow trio in Liveman. Mai was adorable for the most part while not quite crossing the line into being annoying as some of the younger secondary characters tend to be. Emiri and Ryunosuke add variety to the cast and I think Emiri becoming Abare Pink may have started the trend for ranger wannabes (of which Mario / Zyuoh Human has to be my favourite design) which always makes me smile. The Bakuryuu all have pretty distinct personalities and are probably some of the earliest mecha to have free will after Zyuranger. The Bakuryuu also feel more fleshed out than the Guardian Beasts, personality-wise at least. As for the villains, Voffa has to be my favourite. The voice actor sounds a bit like Frank Oz and I love it. Mikela is creepy, particularly when he's trying to capture a high school girl for her fertility. Stop. Get some help. Abare Killer's arc is also compelling, and had me close to tears by the end. And Yatsudenwani gets funnier as time goes on. For a week I was ending my sentences with "Beru beru beru". Normally I'm not a fan of a flashback episode but his had a nice twist ending which I won't spoil in this comment if anyone's reading this far. The music is great as always. The sax music that plays when Abare Yellow is the focus of attention stands out to me for some reason, but I enjoy both the intro and outro. I can't help but sing along with the outro. Even better than Kyutama Dancing. The CGI is reasonable for the technology of the early 2000's and the budget available for a kids' TV show. It's not great but there are moments when I can believe effort went in, like when Topgaler is taking off just before the start of some of the later episodes. But overall it doesn't hold up. And with that I've seen all four dino themed Sentai. And it's my favourite of those four. Likely in my top 10 overall out of the 20+ seasons I've watched so far. [edit] The fishing anime crossover episode is pretty bad, but i can think of a dozen episodes from JAKQ alone which could lay claim to the title of worst episode in the franchise.

Oh my god, I never thought of Voffa sound like Frank Oz. He kind of does. Glad you enjoyed it. It's not perfect, but I do think it is a solid show overall. Did you have a favorite episode?

Just her sheer innocence in wanting to thank him for saving Ryosuke's life and disregarding the multiple attempts on his life afterwards, probably pushing him over the edge to joining the Abaranger team for his final fights. And afterwards when Mikoto reminds Ryosuke not to sacrifice himself as he made a promise to Mai to see her sing. It's like she got through to him. Second is episode 4, where the guy in 2023 (not far away now) remembers meeting Abare Yellow 20 years prior and how she inspired him to always do his best. I think he was still looking for her to thank her after all that time. Episode 33 is a close third, where they reveal Asuka sacrificed himself to free Mahoro from the cursed armour. I like the action and spectacle of Sentai, but it's moments like these I'm drawn to.

Fun Facts: #1: AbareMax was originally going to be the sixth ranger of the series. But, for some unknown reasons, it was change to be a power-up mode for the Red Ranger. #2: In the original script of "Triassic Truimph", from Dino Thunder, Devon Del Valle was originally going to find and bond with the Triassic Ranger powers and join the Dino Thunder Rangers where he have to kept his Ranger secret kept from Cassidy. However, those plans were discarded when Abaranger reveal AbareMax to be a power-up form of AbareRed.

My favorite episode was Ep. 34 where AbareKiller thinks he's beaten AbaRed, only for him to come back and give him the beatdown of the century as both AbaRed Abare Mode and as AbareMax. Too bad Ryouga didn't have the guts to kill Mikoto at the chance...however, it did show Mikoto that he's no match for AbareMax or MaxRyuuOh.

The only problem (this is not the show's fault) is since Shout still hasn't subbed this yet I have to watch it on Kissasian, which takes out my enjoyment due to how long it takes to load and the pop-up ads. Finished watching the show for the first time not that long ago, really enjoyed it but yeah for sure not perfect. The Abarangers are likeable and are fun to watch but really it's Asuka and Mahoro's plot that really keeps you engaged. Kind of feels like this could have just been his show, feels a little Kamen Rider. The villains are a mixed bag, the two who create the monsters are whatever, they feel kind of pointless. Reje was fun when she was little, but once she gets older not somuch. Jeanne is great. Abarekiller is great. id probably give it a 3.5 out of 5

I am sure that many Tommy fans from Power Rangers would be interested in this Sentai series. Hope they can also support the release when Shout Factory eventually releases it. Dinoguts makes me think of Berserk but with Dinosaurs. The anime fishing father episode may have been bad, but it did mix anime with live action. Maybe I have to take your word for it but I think it is a good idea to have, just needed some better writing to the script.

Fun review. Abaranger is one of my personal favorite Sentai seasons, as well as one of the Sentai seasons I watched fully. and I like Dino Thunder as well. It’s funny that there’s not much to Ranru’s character, yet her counterpart Kira is often considered to be one of the best Yellow Power Rangers. Ah Abaranger, I just finished this show earlier today as my 1st ever Sentai i've ever finished and I have to say that I had an absolute BLAST watching through it from start to finish!! There are just a lot of things I really liked from the show overall like from the characters, suits, mechs, soundtrack, action, story, etc. and I have to say that Ryoga, Nakadai, & Asuka are my top 3 most favorite characters from the show for sure and also, Ryoga's personality reminds me of Yusuke/Kuuga in the way that he's just very optimistic & is good with the kids!! Also, i'd personally rank the series to be 4 out of 5 stars IMO 🔥 Now, my 2nd Sentai show that i'll watch may just be Dekaranger next!!! ✌😄

Even tho there was mostly only 4 abarangers from start to finish The reason why Asuka wasn't in some battles was because he wasn't a core member he was more like extra additional member of the core team like the gouraigers from hurricanger hence why his morpher was different from the main 3, why he had a staff and not a blaster, & why he was op at times like the gouraigers

I might have enjoyed Abaranger if I understood what the fuck the plot was. I had no idea what the villains were, what they wanted, and I understood even less what Abrekiller's motivations were outside he was bored with being a doctor. For all its flaws Kyoryuger still had a more coherent plot and fleshed out characters.

I will be honest, but despite the effects not having aged the best, Abaranger is easily my favourite sentai (and probably one of the best sentai) of the early 2000s. But with Abaranger, the opening theme never clicked for me. I don't think it's a bad song, but it didn’t get me hooked. Yet, the ending theme I got hooked on instantly. It's kinda like the reverse of Hurricanger in that aspect, where I instantly got hooked on its opening theme, but it’s the ending theme never clicked for me.

The way it started the whole parallel world was great The heroes mixed feelings I like how Asuka had so much development Ryouga kind of like the black ranger as both lost a sibling and inlaw but he was interesting his relationship with his niece had some good scenes but I cant remember was his brother older or younger he is fun and can make you laugh. Yukito is not bad tho mixed he can be a cool loner but comedy wise he lacking. Ranru was ok tho her devices sometimes just felt like random plot devices see what i did there. Mikoto reminded me of Hisoka from Hunterxhunter doing things just for his own reasons mainly to havve fun sometimes helping the heroes. their allies were funny the suits mixed feelings the power ups were cool the henshin to. The mecha always reminded me of Gaoranger the CGI was not always as good but some ok. The episodes were great but yeah much potential wasted. The villains feel could have been better mixed feelings I kind of preferred Mesogog from dino thunder I liked the episode where they watched Abaranger. I have mixed feelings about the monsters some were cool others could be bettr the ways they made were cool and how they grew was fun. Also its animal object and plant its not always a flower The effects and music were cool. the movies mixed

My favorite episode was episode 36 (first love Abare miracle) I think it was cute seeing Cera interact with yukito as a human and experiencing love for the first time, it had a similar concept to my favorite episode of gingaman where gingat was shrunken down and interacted with a little girl I really like episodes like these in Sentai

I found abaranger being trying both serious and Comedic at the same time is Quite applaudable like sure there are moments the joke seems forced but most of the time i like it, it shows that you can be serious and wacky at the same time if you do it Right, is abaranger Perfect? No its not, but i appreciate the effort they put into the comedy of this show. Also my Favorite moment is when in 20th anniversary movie when they Are doing the roll call and Abare Killer got interupted during his Roll call by aba red by tickling him and its a revenge cause 20 years ago He attacked aba red roll call before he can finished, remember kids Respect the roll call in super Sentai So yeah i enjoyed this show a lot would recommend

Oh man I have to say I really enjoyed Abaranger. I had fun with it, especially the ending theme and my mom walked in on me and was like what is my son watching. Ryoga instantly became my favorite character after I watched episode nine (which is my favorite episode by the way) plus he's a single parent and being raised by a single mother yeah I can feel for the guy. The other rangers Yukito, Ranyu and Asuka I love them just as much and the Megarangers and their counterparts (still indefinite to Tommy btw) though I had to learn to love Dr. Mikato. The Evoileons I thought were ok and I did laugh when they had their silly moments especially when I found out they had telephone and Reje would answer it I just smile. Probably the one thing I didn't like right off the bat was abra mode debuting like in episode 2 when the team enhancement mode debuts in like the second or third arc or why the final battle couldn't be a ground fight instead of a Mecha battle or split but what you gonna do. I did enjoy the movie though most of the time I tend to ignore those because I can't find them or their not required to look at except for the vs movies but this one I had a lot of fun. While I was watching I could see why Dino Thunder had to change things from what they adapted because some things weren't going to work which also answers why Dino Thunder had a lot of American footage too.

You know Megaranger was the first Sentai I ever saw but when we got the one episode from this in Power Rangers Dino Thunder I was happy. Both shows got me threw a hard time in my life because at the time I was being bullied very badly. It was both shows that kept me together because I almost went crazy at one point. But with that I'm sorry what? You only give it a 3 out of 5 just because of the CG? WHY? I never had a problem with the CG or the dub of the one episode for Dino Thunder.

Well I didn't give it a 3 just because of the CGI, but that was a big factor in it because it really broke my immersion with the show. Other factors include the lackluster villains, poor mech battles, and doing very little with the main ranger trio. It's a very high 3 though.

The Bakuryu and Asuka come from another world, That could be seen as a fantasy element, also Digimon Adventure had come out in 1999. Also talking robots dinos that act more like human beings instead of the jerks back call themselves deities from 1992, They give me vibes of Digimon. And just like the fantasy trilogy, there is a use of Deus ex Machina But it's more wisely used in a logical sense.

I get what you are saying. When I think of fantasy elements, I think more along the lines of Lord of the Rings and Record of Lodoss War. Ancient kingdoms, specialized clothing, mythological creatures, etc.
