Man, this really brings back all the nostalgia from years and years ago. I was so in love with Bakemonogatari back then (I still am, just in case), I scourge the internet for anything about it. And one of my most precious finding is the Monogatari complete audio - or something like that- from Bakabt (yes, that Bakabt) which include this conversation between these two. Despite being so in love with anime in general, I barely knows Japanese language. Even so, even until today, I can vividly remember the phrases, the emphasis points, the flow of the convo, the laughter... again, all these with basically ZERO knowledge of what they are talking about 😂 Such is the power of episode 12 😍

There’s a clip in bakemonogatari where senjougahara breaks the 4th wall and tells araragi that she’ll cover for his school absence bc “her voice actress is excellent.” Saito chiwa’s actually voiced a ton of different roles

@@ReCharredSigh That's actually in the novel, too, which was published before casting was done for the anime. The anime did a bit more with it, but the novels making reference to the story being like an anime isn't exactly intended as a 4th wall break there. Another example is in Kizumonogatari, when Oshino is questioned on why he never lights his cigarettes, to which he replies, "it would be much harder to get an anime adaptation." It's a 4th-wall break in that the characters know that they are in a story, but it's not specific to any medium and it wasn't ever intended to be.

I really like these, Not only because I love Bakemonogatari so much, But it also shows the deep difference in the way these voice actors Feel towards the original work. In here there's deep respect, while with american VA's for example, They usually seem stuck up and/or like they feel they can change or add any lines if they want to because it'll "improve" or "fix" things, and that's a really spiteful attitude. In my opinion at least.

I wouldn’t exactly shoulder all of the blame on the American voice actors themselves since they are typically only there to act. More than likely it’s the producers and those who have to translate the show who have a hand in this. I also doubt they just change lines on their own volition , and instead could be a myriad of reasons such as censorship from those who actually run streaming services to even the creators of some of these shows giving them the okay to go wild! A good example of this would be Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt.
