You have a great collection of kukri's. If I was looking at your collection purely from a practical point of view I would go with that utility chopper you have. I live in Panama where we use cheap machetes. Machetes are nice. We use them for everything. I like kukri's because I just like them. I have no real need for a kukri. This is just my opinion, but to me the well forged kukri that is light and agile is just something nice to have. I have a nice kukri like that Kailash blade. I have never chopped wood with it and never will. I use beaters for chopping. I like the beater blades just as much but they are for different uses. That Kailash kukri looks great. Thanx for showing it to us.

A good machete is a very handy tool, hard to beat and I use mine when I am chopping near to rocks or when it might get damaged, I also chased off three crooks with it once too, but if I was was just keeping one kukri it would be a hard decision between my Tora mk1 Fort Williams due to the history of that blade and the construction or the Kailash pensioner as it’s such a wonderful shape and a joy to use.

@@ShelleyRaskin I enjoy the heritage knives page that shows some of the history of the kukri and photo's of some of the kukri's. The kukri's seem to vary a lot and have small wooden handles and big wide blades. The modern blades that we have access to now are fancy. I doubt an average soldier would get a kukri as nice as the pensioner. That is more likely a kukri that an officer or a gentlemen would have. The enlisted man or conscript would get one of those massive heavy honkers that weigh 1000 grams. Heavy kukri's are hard to use for us green horns.

Thanks for the further thoughts on the M43, I'm probably going to buy one in the new year.

It’s a good solid khukuri, light enough to chop with all day! If I was buying it again I would go for a micarta handle though.
@elusivellama Жыл бұрын
Why would you choose micarta over the Indian rosewood? (EDIT: Never mind, I understand why now) Is your M43 a performance or standard grind? I'm thinking of getting mine with the traditional sheath, performance grind, rosewood handle that's slightly flatter (width-wise), polished blade. I'd be willing to consider a micarta handle, though it is another $60 and practically 2/3 the cost of a normal khukuri on their site.

@@elusivellama I went with the performance grind, always do, I would go for micarta because my wooden one chipped a piece of the wood off whilst it was in the sheath, the wood is not stabilised and comes from high altitude, binging it to a low altitude environment can cause stress, hence the wood chipping, micarta will not chip.

Thanks again for the clarification on the grind type, and the thoughts on micarta. If I do go for it, I'll get it in an olive green or maybe a light sand / bone color, as it seems to fit more with the style of this blade.

I don’t think they have those colours available, but if you contact Andrew Lucas there he will tell you what they have, I do know that they have some new handle material in stock that’s not on the website. But to throw another spanner in the works I must say that my pensioner model is my favourite.

You would need to check their website, if you do get one though I would pay extra for micarta handle scales as the wood on mine cracked.

Caution! Never unsheath a kukri by holding the belly of a (traditional) sheath that way. There's nothing more than two pieces of wood held together by leather; the knife can cut roght through it and then slice your fingers. All the best!

Yes, in general English speaking people are very poor and disrespectful of the proper pronunciation of Nepalese words, I assure you on my part it is ignorance and no disrespect is intended.
