The original reason why IBIS was invented was for photographic purposes during ol' DSLR days when even its shutter blade would blur your shots. Gimbal or any dedicated stabilizer is still needed for video anyway because within such a small body of mirrorless, regardless how many stops they claimed about, it just can't handle our mostly tremorous hands.

IBIS + Gimbal is a sector that i have pushed since 2018.

I see your point, but a decent IBIS makes the difference between Video being very shaking to unusable (especially with longer focal lengths) or having a pretty smooth video. Always carrying a gimbal, especially for lower-effort projects or travel, would be a total pain. I have the X-T3 (and basically always use a prime so no OIS either) and really with I had IBIS. But the X-M5 is obviously too small and has a different purpose.

Panasonic has figured out stabilization for video, but DJI made a better solution with the Osmo Pocket 3 putting a camera into a tiny hand held gimbal instead of trying to make a photography camera stabile enough to shoot video and for only $500. Seems like these photography companies have taken a long time to figure out what a vlogger would want, they're getting closer... I think the X-M5 target is the poor man Leica that has become so popular over the past few years. These small range finder type street photography cameras are all the rage now.

It just pisses me off that they got rid of the shutter speed dial. That's like 90% of the reason I like Fuji cameras because you can shoot manually without having to dig around settings on the screen.

Actually, that dial on the top (closest to the rear) can be designated as a shutter speed dial. I’ve shot manual for several days on my x-m5 with aperture and iso on the “clickable” control dial in the front and the shutter speed on the rear dial on the top in the rear. Works fine ..

Am I better off getting the x-t50? Although that one crops the 40megapixel sensor so it’s not a true read out and lacks open gate, I would want to use blackmagic’s assist to record braw (I know the assist adds weight but at that minimal weight of the camera a rig wouldn’t be much more in weight).

IBIS does still matter in photography as it helps when either you're not using an OIS lens or you want to shoot slightly longer exposure times without a tripod as the extra stabilisation does help.

Personally I'll use gimbal for the rest of my video work especially if there's a dynamic movement. ibis is nice to have, but I won't bet my client money except the shoot is kinda static. I like ibis for street photography especially when it's dawn, people walks slower and we can get out from noise penalty. But yeah, gimbal ftw.

Yeah. Pocket 3 is so way ahead of its time. It's possible that it's a strong option for vlogging until pocket 4 comes out. Pretty much killed all 1" and apsc for vlogging. The only thing that can be considered upgrade in IQ especially low light for vlogging is S9 which has a great stabilization

Getting my X-M5 shortly. Assuming since its such a small and light thing, with a small prime on a consumer DJI Osmo Mobile 4 gimbal would work for those must have smooth shots. The other bonus is that the X Chinese knock off lenses are quite decent and very inexpensive compared to SONY.

It's a cool (and good) camera indeed but why not just forget the X-M line and just make a X-E5 with the same rear screen and of course an EVF. One more thing, i don't think we need to have dedicated wheel just for film simulation, like we will change sim' for every pictures. It's fun at start but at a certain point, we usually stick to one or two film and it still already adjustable thanks a quick menu shortcut on other model.

There will definitely be an X-E5. And given the current popularity of Fujifilm, it's almost guaranteed that the X-E5 will sell well. So why don't they release a stripped down "X-E5" first, and then a more fully featured "X-E5" afterwards? Not only does it add more revenue, but it also gives people who bought the X-M5 a 'reason' to upgrade.

@hoangsoncameralabvn on what i read and few interviews during the "Salon de la photo" on the fuji Booth they dont plan to make x-e5, at least in the 3-4 years barely minimum. They build the x-m5 to reduce the range between camera. The x-m5 is a Real amator camera (not in a bad way) and it dont compete right now with a X100V or x-pro. The X-E series was really good but nowadays has a weird position. They change the rear screen on the x-e4 to adapt for the vlogging trend and now with the x-m5 it became a "true" new range more focus on this trend. The selling on the x-e4 wasnt really successful compared to the X100 series. And for peoples who love street photo, the x-pro was the default choice and more niche.

I'm sure the Fuji X-M5 is a GREAT camera just like EVERY Fuji digital camera they've made. But ... It's still quite far indeed from the convenience, quality, and capabilities of at least 7 or 8 other DX format Fuji cameras in fairly recent history. I had a Fuji DSLR way back in the day. Now I have a Nikon D7100 which in many ways is indeed very desirable, but ... it's not a Fuji, and in no way does it equal the best of the Fuji DX cameras -

More clickbait and more unnecessary and misplaced Fujifilm hype. This is a garbage review at a coffee shop table, when it could have been done down in a park and better organized and less hectic. Production value of this video sucks the big one. Plus the many lies and hype are present in the OIS versus XS20 IBIS plus OIS comparisons. They get given cameras so they talk them up or else they'll never get any gear to review and/or they'll end up like Gerald Undone or Tony and Chelsea Northrup left holding their sausage in their hands.
