Pecking order is kinda who was there first...like a line at the bank....you can count and see whose doing what...make yourself known...beginners normally start with shorebreak. Pipeline is a known hot spot for pros so check yourself....i surfed Bells beach a while back and it was gnarly but I saw the locals and just kinda found my own spot where it was quieter although it was quiet qhen in was there..maybe 6 in the water...
