As I do Snow- and Skateboarding, I always dreamed about surfing. 2 weeks ago I flew from Germany to San Diego Mission Beach and learned how to catch waves. Got 5 on my first day, what a feeling! Its true that its most easy to catch some after they're already broken. Bigger waves really wipe you out in the beginning. Most difficult was not catching the wave but finding the sweet spot of balance to the front/back accordingly to the size and Power of the wave. That's what I need to work on next year somewhere.. love California! Wish you guys success!

I wanted to surf all my life but girls didn't do cool things in the 90's where I grew up (small city in Texas.) I moved to Phoenix and tried flowboarding. It's an artificial wave at 40 miles per hour. I'm, let's say, plus sized. I started 2 years ago at 38. I almost threw up with anxiety the first time but I'm ok at it, now. I'm 40 and recently landed a small jump. (There's video proof on my channel, I always assume people won't believe me.) You can do it! Don't wait as long as I did. If you surf in California, the community is not welcoming but don't let them stop you, you have as much right to be there as anyone else.

THANK YOU Australians for simplifying everything and genuinely trying to help the greenest of the beginners, like me. I love the Californian surf community but they are surprisingly elitist and excluding to people who don't know what they're doing. Surprising-because a lot of them are homeless and live off of food handouts from local grocers. I saw one in San Diego bite into a whole raw cabbage like you would an apple. To them, I'M the laughingstock, the kookiest of the kooks, because I don't live on the coast, so I don't get much practice and I don't know all of the 'current' surf lingo and I can't read every change in the ocean and every wave like a book. Also-I'm chunky and 40 and female. I don't really fit the brand. But, I don't care! It doesn't stop me from riding an artificial wave in Phoenix! I landed my first small jump (there's video proof on my channel.) People don't have to like it, I do what I want. Videos like this fuel my empowerment. Thank you!

Finally caught my first wave, watched all of your videos and stored that information, stitching the steps together in the moment proved the biggest obstacle.. Day 1 I take my 100kg lanky ass to the beach with a 6ft 27litre board that I've borrowed. Spent a lot of time swimming, getting rolled, mostly underwater! Day 2 recovered from the toll it put on me getting beaten by the surf. Day 3 went out, now committed, took some professional advice and purchased a new more appropriate sized board. Went to the beach and after 30mins I put it all together and caught a wave, also caught the bug, lived on the coast for a few years and never even considered trying this as a sport but I can see myself there whenever I can now. Thanks for the videos! 👌

I've been living I Huntington Beach for a year, but have never had interest going to the beach, let alone surfing, until the recent stay at home orders. Made me realize how much I never took advantage of learning something new for so long. Once the pandemic slows down and it's a little safer to be in public, I definitely want to start taking time to learn something new and cool.

Thanks so much!! I've been wanting to learn for years. I live a few hours from Pensacola Beach so I'm hoping to go and practice. I had a question on hand placement. Should I be placing my hands flat on the board for the pop up?
@tp66055 жыл бұрын
Gina Robinson yes. Put them flat on the board under your shoulders. Dont curl your fingers around the edge of the board though
@ginahebert38395 жыл бұрын
@@tp6605 thank you!! I'm excited to get started. Thanks for the help.
@HowtoRip5 жыл бұрын
Yeah Gina, keep your hands close to the rails and perform a pushup / burpee style move. Practice on the sand before you go out, this can help!

Great instructions! Thanks so much! I caught my first waves today, thanks to this! I have never surfed before and do not live near the ocean, but decided I wanted to try and surf so I rented a surf board, with no instructions other than this video and did better than my dad, who has had lessons and done it before.

Thank you for sharing! Can you recommend some high-volume Fish Boards for beginner/intermediate in the range of 7 ft? I've been looking online and cant' find any that size
@surfhub_membership4 жыл бұрын
Go check out Degree 33 Surfboards , I just wrote a monster blog post on beginner surfboards and found them to be the most beneficial for a beginner - intermediate surfer.
