प्रत्येक श्वास के बाद माइक्रोसेकेंड के लिए विश्रांति का क्षण आता है, जब शरीर न तो श्वास ले रहा होता है और न ही छोड़ रहा होता है। उस क्षण पर ध्यान करने से एक कौंध का अनुभव होता है, इसे मध्यदशा भी कहते हैं, विज्ञान भैरव तंत्र में कहा गया है कि मध्यदशा के विकास से भैरवावस्था प्राप्त होती है। इस पृथ्वी पर उपलब्ध सभी ध्यान विधियों से इसी मध्यदशा का विकास होता है। इस विधि में भी जब पुस्तक श्वास के साथ ऊपर जाकर रुक जाती है और जब श्वास के साथ नीचे जाकर रुक जाती है तो एक सूक्ष्म कौंध घटित होती है जिससे मध्यदशा का विकास होता है।
