19:30 rather to fight to our last drop of blood than accept your foreign King Mr Alós, but thanks for your backhanded compliment anyway 😐 As of today we still celebrate the 11 of September in Catalonia as our National day, a time to remember the heroic fight taken by the defenders and all the sacrificies made by the population. A day were our rights as a Nation were severed and our laws abolished... So here we are, 309 years later, still conmemorating the event, still fighting for our lost freedom. Visca Cataunya!

Aftermath: Catalonia and the other Aragonese realms who had the misfortune to be assigned to the Bourbons in the partition, were annexed to Castile (there was no "Spain" yet, that would be formed only a century later with the Bonaparte-Gody coup). For decades the repession was so brutal that Catalans were forbidden to have knives, except one that had to be at all times tied to the kitchen's table. Castilian-French imperialism continues to this very day and that's why Catalans and Basques do not want to be Spain nor France. Death to empires! Freedom to the Peoples!

@@NazarioOrbe - Prosperous slaves? Who cares about prosperity (if real at all) when you aren't free, your language is illegal and you're treated as a third class subject (because "citizen" would be an anachronism). Have you even considered the ethnicity of the rulers of Castile/Spain in the last three centuries and how many Catalan presidents (of the state or the government) have been? I did count them and, with the absolutely brief exception of the First Republic (which lasted months only) they do not exist at all: Catalans are the most politically discriminated against ethnicity in Spain, followed by Canarians, Valencians and Basques. Andalusians and Castilians on the other hand are privileged (Galicians only if you consider the last century or so, they used to be quite discriminated against too).

I'm afraid that war had nothing to do with Catalan independence, but only with a dinastic succession in the Spanish throne. The real war of independence was fought back in 1640, at unison with Portugal's one. And actually, the Catalan anthem refers back to that previous episode, which was brought to an end with a peaceful settlement (the peace of Pedralbes)) and the losing of the "Rosselló" plains to France.
@FieldMarshalYT
@FieldMarshalYT 11 ай бұрын
The War of the Catalans fought from 1713-14 was for independence. In the conflict of 1702-1712 it was for, as you said, the dynastic succession, in which the Catalans supported Charles III.
