I've been in a sofubi mood lately! I've been watching Record of Lodoss War for my summer anime viewing, and I really couldn't resist starting on this kit by Kaiyodo. It's coming along rather quickly as the parts fit together very well.

Yeah, they don't get enough love anymore. I don't see people building vinyl subjects often on this platform.

Really cool subject to take on for your next project, it's been quite a while since I've seen Record of Lodoss War. I'm excited to see where this goes!

I bought Lodoss on bluray a couple of years ago, and I am now finally watching it. They really sharpened the picture considerably!

I got quite anxious when you were cutting through the vinyl.

I once drew blood on my channel, several years ago. I can't remember what kit it was, but I accidentally stabbed myself with a hobby knife.

Gowron... the Klingon commander from TNG? Neat. Somebody gave me a kit from TNG... I think it was a Kardassian. I've forgotten, actually. Of course it's not necessary to use vinyl paint like V-Color on these kits, they sure are nice. While V-Color may be hard to come by in North America, there is a line of vinyl paint called Mad Ape Ninja you could use.

My introduction to ROLW was thru a Dreamcast video game , i had a lot of fun back then . And only later i find out about anime . Quite good one to it's time.

That's cool. I just recently watched a YT video detailing the various Lodoss games which mentioned that Dreamcast game. I own it, but I didn't buy it until about 10 years ago, before prices went way up for retro games. I still haven't played it.

Thanks, Mick! Yeah, we both had a bad experience with V-Color at first. It's just not meant to be used with primer, but unfortunately the Yuri kit had dimples in the vinyl so I figured I should use primer. It would have worked better to not use V-Color on those parts in that case. It was certainly a learning experience!

i still have some v colour can,t use because can,t get the thinner here at least not the proper stuff there is a substitute but it does,nt work great, causes a lot of stringing,

You're welcome! Sofubi figures are made a bit differently than resin figures. You can search my channel for several other sofubi figure builds I've done.

@stevethefishdotnet Were you only using masking tape? I thought I heard you mention some sort of liquid mask. Either way, your paint separation was great.

Yes, I did use Hasegawa Masking Liquid. I sometimes like to go over the masking tape with it in order to ensure that it covers any gaps I may have missed in the masking tape, as well as prevent capillary action.

Loddos War is a great story, I loved the manga as well. Great to see the process of painting a sofubi of such a pretty, unique character. I've aquired a sofubi Nadia and Elektra from "Secret of Blue Water", but I haven't started to work on them yet. I've seen you using plaster, while others use construction expanding foam to fill the insides and I'm kinda torn what is better in the long run. Which one do you recommend?
@stevethefishdotnet
@stevethefishdotnet 5 ай бұрын
Expanding foam sounds nice, but I've never seen that. I don't know where to find stuff like that here in Japan. I only use plaster in the foot where the weight is centered on. The plaster also provides weight to prevent sagging. I then stuff the other pieces with paper clay to provide support. I've seen that Elektra sofubi kit on YAJ sometimes. I like her hairstyle better at the end of the show than as she first appears. Tsukuda made that kit along with three Nadia kits: the circus outfit, the yellow bathing suit, and one you can make as her white island dress or the Nautilus cutoff uniform. I began building all three about 8 years ago, and I am now getting back to them.

@@stevethefishdotnet Thanks! I have the swimmsuit version of Nadia. I was just afraid the expanding foam would cause deformation in the figure's form and wasn't sure it's a good idea.
@stevethefishdotnet

Well, it might be a good idea. I am just ignorant about expanding foam. The yellow swimsuit Nadia kit is so far the easiest between the three kits since the parts separation works very well and I did not need to use any putty on it for seamlines. I had difficulties with the Nadia I and Nadia III kits, so I got discouraged. I just airbrushed the yellow bathing suit over the weekend though, and I am working on making these look good at last.
