So even when he was still handling the bass duties we were kind of cheated. To me Nick was the star musician in the band. The keyboard player was next for the cool sounds he was getting from his synths. Nice job on guitar with the e-bow in this. All of them were good. I don't understand why they got rid of Limahl. They stated in the past it was because of his image which seemed to appeal to the 'teeny-bop' music and they wanted to get away from that look. So imagine my surprise when I see Nick, here with his hair like Limahl and makeup . Did he always want to be the front man and wanted Limahl out of the way?
@kajafreur527 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure their manager fired him, and because the band started to fail commercially as a result, so I imagine Nick is trying to revive that image in an attempt to return the band to how it was, but it ultimately failed. Nick is a good singer, and personally, I think they should have split the vocals while Limahl was with them.
@markdown01 Жыл бұрын
@@kajafreur527True about that manager thing. Without Limahl they made what I consider their best album, one of my favorite ever by anyone "Islands". It has Jazz Funk Fusion aspects that wouldn't suit Limahl so well. As much as it was a commercial decline, it was quality over quantity /sales. Such a great album, well worth it.
@kajafreur527 Жыл бұрын
@@markdown01 I completely agree. Islands is my favorite album too. However, I feel like an album that had a kind of cycle, one song sung by Nick, then the next by Limahl, etc., possibly with some duets thrown in, and some interludes to appreciate their fantastic musical ability, would've been their best move. They both have fantastic voices, but each encapsulate completely different moods and I think they'd just need to find the right balance. I also think that they should've stuck with the name "Art Nouveau", as Kajagoogoo, while it was certainly attention grabbing, was a pretty crap name, it made them look like they weren't serious and silly, so people kind of just laughed it off without actually appreciating to the quality of the music. If they'd stuck with the original name, they would've probably been taken a hell of a lot more seriously, and they'd have been appreciated more by audiences.
@LaidInRuinsDC Жыл бұрын
Nick has said that the pre-existing core of the band (himself, Stuart and Steve) wanted the band's music and image to mature with the audience on the model of Duran Duran, which changed quite significantly in style between their s/t debut and Rio. Where Limahl would have taken the follow-up album was clear from his solo release 'Don't Suppose', a frankly more Euro sounding approach that ditched a lot of the quirks of the British new wave scene which are evident on 'Islands'. It was handled terribly, but this kind of thing just happens, especially when you have an existing band that brings in a talented lead singer.
@weallmakechoices74562 жыл бұрын
5 was a great number, limahl was the key that unlocked their incredible synergy. What a great shame they were too immature to realise it. All extremely talented musicians. Nick in this concert is just flailing - he is very talented but does not have charisma, nor a captivating tone to his voice. His energy is hyper and brittle. I always wondered why kaja disappeared like a puff of smoke, limahl was the one I remembered out of them all and could not understand why they suddenly vanished, way back in the day.

It was actually Nick Beggs that formed Kajagoogoo! He then asked Limahl to join the group and after 3 albums legal fighting by Limahl made the band get rid of him. It left Beggs and the band with only one option, to front one of there own as lead vocalist. They made an attempt at rejoining after VH1 Band Reunited 2004 got them back together. After remastering their old singles and a flopped new single Limahl made it impossible for the band to carry on with pushing more legal issues and that was it! Nick beggs is a superb bass player and it’s strange he chose here to perform without a bass. Singing lead and playing the bass can be done. Perfect examples look at Sting and mark king from level 42

"Too Shy" was credited to Limahl as well. He was actually credited 8/10 songs from "White Feathers" for lyrics. The music was credited to Kajagoogoo (all members), the lyrics were either just Limahl or him with Nick Beggs.
