Kajza M3 E36 3.0 hard shaking and rough idle.avi

After changing instrument cluster and 8 min driving engine start to hard shaking and have low idle. We try to reset ecu and this help for several minutes, engine run like new, but after half hour shaking start again. On comp diagnostics no any error codes, vanos work ok, camshaft have ok angles...Car is fast, strong, with excellent throttle response......When MAF is disconnected engine react...My board computer is died in this days and this is shown in diagnostics.
I will make big service on engine which include valve adjustment, measure fuel pressure, oil pressure, compression test, throttle body basic setting / exhaust synchronization, oil change, clean idle control valve etc etc...
FIXED: new cluster wont pass speed signal from diff to ecu, so ecu cant make good fuel tables. this is cleary visible on onboard comp which dont show up any info about consumption.

My S50B30 swapped 328i idles like this when cold too, and haven't been able to work out what it is. Vanos working OK. No fast idle when cold. Idles OK warm. No DME or VNC error codes. No codes in cluster, and OBC consumption and average speed readings work OK. Its doing my head in!

When you look behind your instrument cluster it's the plug behind the rev counter and water temp. I would take your instrument binnacle back off look in that location its a long slim BLUE plastic plug and double check it's connected it's easy for wiring to fall down and disappear into that dark hole and not see you forgotten to connect it up. 2 wires come out of it thin black/white wire takes signal down to pin 14 on the big screw together umbilical cord type harness. You just need to look for

could be a lose or hose that fell off, maybe even a cracked one. Not all vac lines are clamped on. You could use carb cleaner or propane around the engine..if it gets sucked in at a vac hose itll cause the revs to climb. there are vids on youtube on how to look for leaks if you are not familiar.

It actually sounds pretty good, a bit like a bigger cam and vanos delete. But I hope you sort it out :S

I think that my problem is defective instrument cluster which dont pass speed signal from differential to ecu. Without this signal ecu cant make good ignition tables. But, I will know when I finish some 60 miles trip on highway. Only after driving on highway I have this problem.

maybe...today I try to tighten all screws on hose clamps but no results. I dont have tools for checking vac, only hand tools.

Forgot to say if you disconnect ecu then reconnect and start car and drive it you will have full power but after 10 mins car shaking again. Disconnecting ecu puts it back to default mode for 10 mins that's why your car is ok for first 10 mins.

maybe...i change oil to 10w50 fuchs titan race pro s (from m1 5w50) and for now is ok. I will know more for 7 days when i go back from 600 miles trip.

This is not ICV problem, but we clean it and no success. ICV work or not work, cold or hot...

I have same issue but I have USA M3. S52. But it makes the same noise and the car vibrates hard

There's a plug connector which connects onto the instrument gauges if this plug is not connected it fails to send the speed signal to the ecu. Your ecu on this car needs a speed signal to operate properly. How do I know this because I have a BMW e36 323i I put the m3 engine and ecu in and the engine idle terrible and not that fast. The 323i doesn't need the speed signal and I used the 323i wiring loom so there was no wire going from ecu to speedo. I had to make a wire and join it to this plug

hi i have a 325i with m3 engine and ecu my car idle is not perfect. Only when is cold idles perfec but when is warm up idle is a little low but not like in this video. do you now something about. thank you.

I have in the back 3 plugs, blue, white and black..all 3 is connected...speedo work...do i miss something? on comp diagnose yesterday i have some error like dme dont know speed, geswindichkeit...

Interesting I have the same problem with my 1997 328is but it does it just at cold start, I do not know I it will do it on hi way cause we so not have hi ways here, have you tried to clean or change the ICV? That will be no next step, I already change the maf, CO2 sensors and cam position sensor!

yes...new instrument cluster was not for that car...

My M3 3.2 has currently the same idle issue when the engine is warm. Did you manage to solve it? And what caused it?

My instrument cluster is bad. Test it on diagnostics.

@@folerx ok clear, my instruments working fine. So I don't think that's the problem. Instrument test by holding the button and put the key in position 1 does all well. But many thanks!

no fast idle....try disconnect reconnect throttle position sensor

I have the same symptoms as you. No fast idle when cold, and idles like i have big lumpy cams. Did you solve it?
