I've come to think of things a bit like Tolstoï did it's just like a tide that flows and ebbs and there is not really anyone in control of it. But of course it can be influenced. Someone like Trump has become a phenomenon and so no longer quite human and beyond categories of good and evil but he might just do something that is good by ending the war not because he is good but he feels the need to impose his will upon the world.
