I wanna know what exactly makes the Celestials gain a disdain for their ancestral human ancestors... you'd think that they'd have a reverence for their ancient brothers and sisters seeing as it was them that yes, destroyed Earth but they also provided salvation for their whole race. So I wonder why they just hate them so much. They surely couldn't have lost ALL knowledge of their human forefathers 🤔🤔
@JezaGaiaАй бұрын
Think about it, how much real knowledge, not just educated guesses, do we have of civilizations that ruled the wold just a few hundred years ago here on earth ? And that's having a lot of physical clues to work with as well as physical reminders of said civilizations (pyramids, roman buildings and so on) So imagine with even more time and incredible physical distance what can happen to the perception and knowledge they would have of their ancestors ?

It's more that they're now so removed from baseline humanity in biology and in psychology that the existential levels they're operating on are totally different to humans. Can a human relate to an ant in their garden? If a human digs up part of their garden to do landscaping, it might destroy many ant colonies but the human wasn't attacking the ants, the ants were incidental to what was going on, but to the ants it would have seemed identical to a massive incomprehensible attack.

The only thing that takes me out is the reasoning for abandoning the earth. In a scifi setting where terraforming technologies exist, why not just use that same tech to make earth habitable.
@jacobstar263125 күн бұрын
I believe from the lore they left earth before having the technology to Terraform earth. Otherwise, you would be right.. why leave if you can rebuild.
@BreandanOCiarrai19 күн бұрын
what would be interesting is to see what became of those left behind. Earth will eventually heal itself and recover once the bulk of humanity has skipped town or died off, it's survived far worse than Humanity (even hit by another planet), and our biosphere is incredibly resilient and adaptable. Some humans will likewise survive, possibly evolving to suit the new biosphere that comes out of that recovery period, and after fourty thousand years? Who knows what they could wind up being like. Modern humanity went from primitive stone-tool-using cave dwellers to walking on the moon in less than half that time, so a part of me wonders about what might be back on ol' Terra. I HIGHLY doubt it'd play into the game, but it's an interesting thought to ponder.

My biggest issue with the Exodus' lore is the fact that humanity has technology to colonize other star systems yet somehow can't climate engineer Earth back into being habitable. As Neil DeGrass Tyson said "If we get the technology to terraform another planet to flee our own well before that we would have the technology to re-terraform Earth" and it kinda ruins the appeal of the narrative for me
@quintyss1290Ай бұрын
I get you. But ask yourself, instead, what you would consider unrealistic in terms of re-terraforming a current dying Earth. A Sun about to go super-nova? A shattered moon essential for life on Earth? Maybe the goal was to terraform the existing Earth but the technology, while good enough for a world with a stable Sun elsewhere, may not be enough and they need newer technology from the future to make it work.
@edenlink30Ай бұрын
I think it's human nature. Look at us now. We know global warming is even worse, we could change course now to come to our senses... and yet we double our carbon emissions because we want money and cheap products. Now take that behavior and apply it to a dying world. I don't think all humans will make a wise and intelligent choice. It's sad but I sincerely think that we will make this choice in real life, rather than facing our human problems.

@@codyconnor6981 We're not talking about building a railroad under the Atlantic though, we're talking about survival of the entire species and dooming billions to die as they don't make the cut. @mihan2dАй бұрын
@@codyconnor6981Yeah so the next logical step is to abandon the entire star system and doom billions to perish as they don't make the cut. Also arriving at ANY new planet means SIGNIFICANT terraform work would have to be done anyway so we're back to square 1 in terms of the need to terraform. I would rather the origin of the Exodus be shrouded in mystery rather than just a Go Green commentary. Maybe you get to reveal what cosmic force we've been running from and face it later on

Where do find out that the book takes place after the game? We know the book takes place across the 42,300s and Jun goes into hiding around 41,600-41,700ad, but we don't know how long he was in hiding for in objective time, and given all the time dilation stuff it's not unreasonable to think he could have been kicking around for 600 years or so objective time. (Admittedly I'm only half way through the book, so maybe there something there or in a lore bit I haven't seen that confirms the game is set before 42,300).

I like stuff like this, but I hate any setting where earth is abandoned. You don’t just forget about the planet that created you like that, even if it’s dead. I’d at least have someone on the moon to watch over the place, or leave a time capsule so future generations would know that _this_ was our first world, our first home. It just seems indecent to leave one’s cradle behind without even so much as a thought. Granted, it can work in some settings: foundation, mainly. In that, it makes sense; mankind has been in space for so long that no one even really remembers a time before that. If I were building the arks, I would have put a big sign on the main deck that was just a picture of earth and the words “WE CAME FROM HERE,” so that no one would ever forget our tired old mother, and what she did for us.
