feels good to release a longer project for the first time since 2021 😌i'm quite proud of these tracks, i hope you all enjoy them! i got a new album in the works where I'm expanding on some of the styles I started on this project, so this EP can be considered a "prelude" of sorts to that. there will be a vinyl pressing of this project as well, news to come on that shortly. thanks for the support as always, take it easy ✌

wow absolutely incredible! the intro to sway reminded me of my childhood during the summer when i would hear wind chimes blowing in the wind. So peaceful and totally encapsulates such a nostalgic feeling❤

there is a japanese garden here in portland that sells the most amazing windchimes, i bought some and recorded them to make that intro. i love the mysterious energy they can give a track

I love that you bought and used real chimes for SWAY. They remind me of the chimes on FLOATING GHOSTS and TEAHOUSE SPIRITS. Are they the same?

yeah actually, the beginning of teahouse spirits starts with a recording i made on my phone of some windchimes that were on display outside of the japanese garden gift shop 😅 so then i eventually went back and actually bought some lol

I commented on your "Whisked Away Again" track about how that song in particular seemed to have a notable influence of traditional Japanese aesthetics, and lo and behold, here's an entire EP that I just stumbled across that is explicitly influenced by traditional Japanese music. Again, very well made. Though if I can be permitted to make a personal suggestion based on the fact that my favorite time periods in Japanese history are much older than Basho, have you ever looked into incorporating gagaku (雅楽) into a song? It's usually a lot less pleasant for most people to listen to, largely because it's more like sustained, pleasant noise than it is what we typically think of as music. That being said, if there was anyone out there who could incorporate the ethereal sounds of things like a koto (琴), hichiriki (篳篥), sho (笙), and one or more of the various flutes like the ryuteki (竜笛) or the shinobue (篠笛) it would be you. Or if you already have a track or two featuring these instruments, I would love to be pointed to where I can find them.

So far, I've actually incorporated a lot more traditional Chinese instruments than Japanese. I own and play a Guzheng, and then I've incorporated other Chinese instruments such as Pipa, Erhu, Dizi, and Xiao. As for Japanese instruments, I've used a Shakuhachi before, but that's about it. I find I'm more influenced by Japan when it comes to aesthetics, like track titles, artwork, and musical inspiration (Nujabes, Joe Hisaishi, Yuji Ohno, etc) rather than the actual instruments used. That being said, I'm very open to using more traditional Japanese instruments in the future! Thanks very much for all your recommendations by the way, I will be looking into all of them :)
