We were driving around the French country side and I got a barnyard scent similar to a hindi oud opening which I found quite pleasant due to me experiencing many oud through my life .

The smell is lovely. Certainly a better value than you can find in western houses. I seriously doubt they are pure though. They’re stronger smelling than any highly aged oils I’ve smelled. You’ll also notice that they’re selling 80 years old oil again and in the ingredients list they note aged kalakasi, agarwood and Iris. This is likely an attar (and they have great noses) with aged oil as one of its facets.

Thanks for sharing this with us. "Thaqeel" is an Arabic word ( ثقيل ) ; it means heavy in weight but also is used to indicate that some liquid is viscous.

Great review! I echo your sentiment about their website and lack of info... Now am hearing that a lot of their good ones are being heavily reformed...Sadeen for one...well at least there are other artisanal companies stepping to the plate. I was intrigued by the word “Kalakasi” for a while, so I went to one of the ASQ branches and got myself half a tola (vintage batch) for about 1000 USD. I was lucky enough to get it at a good offer as I got another half a tola for free. The same offer was available for Sadeen attar and I have saved a lot of money that way. There is a sprayer form of the Kalakasi oud and it smells amazing! Doctor, I highly recommend you try the sprayer form of the Kalakasi and the Cambodian as well. Take care and thanks a million.

I was straight away directed to your video when typed Kalakassi in google video suggestions. I do watch your Hindi content but this one really was so engaging and informative. You do mention your english channel videos there but didn't get a chance to watch till now. I've purchased ajmal's oudh which is one of my favourites and mohd ayub's majmua, kasturi, mukhallat, I've also purchased AL rehab's sultan, silver, avenue - which is somehow a clone of CREED Aventus. Would be going for KHAS no 1 of mohd ayub soon. One help I need from you is tht I've been searching since 3 months and this is the reason which made me write to you tht Jannat El Firdous BLACK iam tired of hunting. I've almost visited 90/95 attar stores and haven't found yet. So it wud be Grt if you can help me out of this. This is an Oud that really interested me... price was out of control, but I know the rarity! Their website is just sad. There is absolutely no info on anything. The most generic descriptions you can imagine. Problem is that todays ASQ is terrible... everything I bought this year is water down, and smell very synthetic. Love your reviews, for me they are like masterclasses. Nowadays something strange is happening to me. I seem to reach for my "ouds" for personal use, and I tend to wear it more in the house and at night, even the most skanky ones, and more animalic, than in public. Kalakassi is from Bangladesh 🇧🇩. Kalakassi or koala gachi, means black tree in the local language. There is a 155 year old kalakassi tree in Bangladesh which had visitors from firmenich, ajmal, and amouage. The tree is owned by al haramain.

Kalakasi is named after the Kalakas region in India. Thaqeel means "heavy" or "dense" in Arabic.

@@BilalBrownThere is no place called kalakas in India that I ever heard. Kalakasi is a corruption of the Bengali/Assamese word kala(black)+gach/gass (tree) denoting black tree. This is a darker variant of Agarwood tree from Assam/Bangladesh/Tripura.

Sounds very interesting Doc. Anyway today I tried "INDONESIAN OUD" by Ermenegildo Zegna. Ya guys I know we are discussing ASQ oil here but just Just want to share my impression. Its very captivating and modern Oud fragrance. Very classy and elegant and lasted on my skin for 6-7 hours with just a test spray. I feel its more suited for an upscale gentleman, very impressive. Give it try guys, wont be disappointed.

Brother you said just like Creed avantus we have batch issues! I don't know how they have batch issues. Creed avantus is synthetic perfume and technically they should not have batch issues at all. Creed is doing it on purpose. In case of natural we have so many variables like water used weather etc etc so obviously we have batch issues haha 😃😃

I think we all honesty know that oils more than 10, maybe 15 years old never went to the wild market. Anything more aged, went to rich guys from china, japan or uae/saudis, for us mortals this 50, 80 and 150 is just something we say to others, but deep inside we know that this is not true. Go to serious wine store and look how much 50 and 100 year wine bottle costs and you believe that someone could sell something from those times and you should be capable to buy from your monthly salary? You imagine things, but reality is different. I wear this 80 kalasi oud oild right now and it is good enough wear it alone or mixed with others. I've got their 150 version too, but I have to be honest, I've smelled much better. I remember from ensaroud/agaraura or feel oud they sent me sample , just 0.3ml and I used it for like a month, that was completely different level. Everything about the smell from the beginning till the end is different, these asaq oils are good enough for the masses, they do represent oud oil as a scent, so people could imagine what it is like to wear one, but the smell is not complex, they do not have "magic effects", but they are still pleasant if you like oud oils.

Ok here's my scent related question : Are there any resinous Attars or oil blends? I absolutely love Tom Ford's Amber Absolute, Tobacco Oud, MFK Absolue Pour le Soir, Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan for their dry and resinous auras. Is there an oil/attar version of that? Typically I find only rose/khus/shams/Jasmine but never resins.
