This is a live performance of our song Slow Motion taken from the live stream we hosted in June 2020 at Gildehallen, Borre, Norway.
Filmed and edited by Valkyrien Productions: www.valkyrienproductions.no
Made in collaboration with the team of Midgardsblot Festival in Norway.
We hope you enjoy this performance as much as we did playing it. The hall was absolutely incredible to perform in and we're excited to come back to Borre as part of Midgardsblot Festival in 2021 - hopefully (!)
If you like what you hear, feel free to share, like and subscribe to our channel.

She has such control that she can abandon it altogether (seemingly lol)... The vocal flail/thrash she does at the end of the chorus, "I am running" building up to "slow motion"... now here is a prime example of vocal freedom, with a healthy dose of guts. She pushes some boundaries for sure, and that my friends is freaking ART.

The mainstream has always been crap, more or less. If you look at all the music from my era that is still getting hundreds of thousands of views on KZbin, most people at the time hadn't heard of most of it. And if they had, they'd look at you like they regretted defunding asylums.

I wonder how they compose these songs, almost every song I hear from Kalandra is so atmospheric and transports me away from the physical world. All the instruments (including the singer’s voice) work so well together!

I think it's a perfect mix of inspirations and their own musical soul. Some songs' atmospherics, especially this one, remind me of Radiohead and Thom Yorke, but it's beautifully mixed with folk singing. And my sense is quite accurate here, because Jogeir is much inspired by Radiohead and Yorke, and Katrine more by Aurora, Myrkur, Eivor (you can see it on their playlists on Spotify, they also mentioned it in interviews or some Q&A's).

The music follows the same chords throughout for the most, but they break it. There is an undertone chord (not the technical term) but it's a basic note or few notes that get repeated which creates a connection to the listener. It's like the droning horns in music like Heilung that is a constant. The changes in the temp from chorus to verse, solo, even into and outro are all written in a way that will allow her voice to guide the listener wherever she wants too. They are what a true band are, not half the bullshit that gets pushed at us these days. Edit, sorry for the long response, am stoned and talking about how they affect me so rambled on 🙃😆

Aurora has had a few more years on her neck, and had the luck to have been signed up for gigs with both HBO and Disney, and that's a pretty bit publicity boost. If I'm to be a bit... I suppose cynical... Aurora's music is more commercially viable. It's an easier listen, at least when looking through the top songs on Spotify. Very inoffensive, if you will(Which is neither good nor bad). Kalandra on the other hand is rather peculier, and as brilliant as they are, at times they are almost raw, bordering on the manic, which is not for everyone. I wish Kalandra the very best with their luck in the music industry, but I frankly doubt they'll ever grow big, simply because they're a bit too odd. That said, I like odd, and I have days when I blast their songs on repeat, simply because I like them so much.

@@Papadragon18 You are probably right; I admit that I listen to Aurora only when she teams up with Wardruna or if my favourite reaction channel reacts to her (no offense intended, she is really good, but not up my alley). As I don't go for mainstream stuff and prefer it symphonic, dark, peculiar, odd or raw, Kalandra is for me more on the lighter side 😃. I wish them the best of luck as well.

lyrics: Got a million things to distract my mind There's a million ways I could spend my time Keeping me from who I need to be Distracting me from what I need to do I dive, I dive into an infinite ocean It makes me, it makes me devoid of all emotion I am running in slow motion I am running in slow motion Forever Got a single plan for this life of mine But there's a million failures awaiting trial Guide my feet so they can touch the ground Ignore the noise, till it won't make a sound I dive, I dive into an infinite ocean It makes me, it makes me devoid of all emotion I am running in slow motion I am running in slow motion Forever I am running in slow motion I am running in slow motion Forever Ever

NORWAY!!! Who knew!? I just discovered Aurora a couple of months ago, turning my 3 pillars of Human Society (fav singers lol) into a full blown Mt. Rushmore. If I keep exploring Norwegian music, however, I'm gonna need to build a new monument. Of course you do, and great music is one way you can know it. Either the most important things in life, and those most directly experienced (consciousness, beauty, love, morality, meaning) are an illusion, or you have a soul. There’s really no good reason to think they are an illusion aside from some bizarre philosophical insistence that everything must be reducible to matter. What you experienced is a deep awareness that there’s more in the world than “stuff”.
