Try catching a full-on mid-line Kyokushin-Mawashi Geri. These techniques will only work on weak roundhouse kicks, it would be better to get out of range, then punish. If you keep practicing these drills and you get muscle memory for it and you meet a Thai Boxer, an MMA fighter or a Karateka who really knows how to give real roundhouse kicks, you will be in for a RUDE-AWAKENING! And some broken ribs, ruptured spleen or liver, dislocated elbow and a crushed ego for thinking you can easily catch a roundhouse kick.

Muay Thai uses a similar round kick defence but it involves stepping away or closer to the leg to negate some of the force, this might make the technique more plausible. Also if you've ever been to any run of the mill gym, let alone people that don train you'll know that most people's kicks suck. Highest percentage counts in self defence.
