I completely agree with you. Though having enough creative liberty to use a character like Ashwaththama for their fictional movie, they still cannot take the chance to show Prabhas as Kalki and that too knowing that he may be doing most of the things which people might not totally relate with their perception of an avatar. Also, Raya is another name of Vishnu and it has been taken as a reference, to let people assume this character to be Kalki himself, while their story shall not claim so. Hence, this character of Raya is Prabhas himself as kid. My assumption is...in the particular scene, after showing all the torture and evil Kali and his men had been doing, a scene may come where raiders attack these people and all of nowhere Appears ashwaththama's character to rescue people. He then brings all people to his hideout, where this kid Raya finds much interest in the old yet heroic fellow. Their friendship grows and as the time passes, Ashwaththama soon make Raya proficient with arms, weapons giving training along with other mighty beings. Therefore, this trailer that we saw is a combination of several different scenes portraying different time periods from Raya being a kid to being a full grown adult as prabhas. So, according to me that 'wait for me' statement as a kid, is just a hoax to let you believe as what you see.
