Kalley Heiligenthal - Quieting The Inner Critic | Watch The Video Here: bit.ly/2NKjtqP
In this message "Quieting The Inner Critic," Kalley Heiligenthal shares her own journey of mastering the inner critic while shedding light on many of the lies we need to stop believing. Kalley Heiligenthal has been a worship leader and songwriter at Bethel Church and with Bethel Music since 2014. She also serves as 2nd Year Worship Pastor for Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM). Originally from Minnesota, Kalley grew up heavily involved in choir and began leading worship in college through a student-led worship ministry. SUMMARY:
Kalley opens by having students listen to two bridges, building into the Chorus.
What if some songs had never been finished? What if you don’t finish the songs you’ve started?
God didn’t create lazy people. There’s another reason we don’t finish what we started.
Jesus had a calling on His life. His final words were, “It is finished,” he had completed His calling. We were always supposed to finish and complete our calling. Important things have to be fought for.
There are patterns that we get into patterns or resistance.
Kalley prays for students for the ability to break these patterns, and quiet those inner voices that tell you-you're not qualified.
Kalley tells students the process of how “Ever be” was written.
Most warfare happens in your mind. Athletes visualize their play first, and it actually affects the way they play. Kalley proposes this is the same in songwriting.
Lies to be cast down:
“I can’t process my feelings because they’re ugly” - that is religion.
Self-loathing and general negativity. We talk to ourselves in ways we would never dream of speaking to anyone else. Steward yourself well, so the Lord can trust you.
“I’m cliche” - It’s actually an accusation against God. You are actually custom-created. When you are genuine and authentic, you can never be cliche.
“Pressure! You’re running out of time!” - Who set a date to artistic relevance! My best days are ahead of me always.
“No-one cares what I think or say” - people opinions matter less and less when you know how He sees you.
“I don’t have what it takes” - who qualifies you? You? Or God?
“It’s not worth it” - this is discouragement and apathy. We are actually meant to work, God created us to co-labor with Him in the garden. We just have to find where. You work with Him to craft your song, He won’t rip it out of you.
Think carefully about the voices that talk to you. John 10, "You hear His voice. You can discern Him from the other voices.
If a voice rushes you, discourages you, makes you feel less than who you are you can be pretty sure it’s not Him.
We’ve had things that have gone dormant in us because of critics talking at us about them for too long.
As artists, we may need to look head-on at our gifting and get after it again.
Kalley ministers to the students.

She read my mail! I have always wanted to write songs for God since I was a little boy. It just never happened. And the dream got buried deep down and overshadowed by the concerns of the world and life in general. I too struggle with the "it's too late" and "I'm too old" lies. As well as the "I'm not a writer" lie. I have also believed the lie that because I get stuck in the middle of a song or a story, that I am just not a good writer or I'm trying too hard so it's probably not meant for me, etc. But now, I understand it's a co-labor project with God and requires work. Game changer! Thanks Kalley!

@Angel c Hi Angel. It says that Anna was a prophetess. A messanger for God. Isn't a prophetess greater than a pastor? In verse 38, "And she coming in that instant gave thanks unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption..." Isn't that what pastors do? There are a number of prophetesses recorded in the scriptures. Exodus 15: 20-21, Judges 4:4 being a couple of examples. Another thought comes from Jeremiah 3:15 "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. " I felt fed by her knowledge and understanding and would shun from trying to quench it. One more thought from Numbers 11:29. "... would God that all the Lord's people were prophets (prophetesses) and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!"

She's talking about resistance here. She identifies it and calls it out. "I see you and you have no power left anymore."
@rubyrosado9377
@rubyrosado9377 4 жыл бұрын
First of all, that is not what she said. You quoted her incorrectly. At that point, she was praying and right before that she mentioned "resistance" and said we don't want to just talk about it but for it to be done today. Then she continues her prayer and says "so God we just talk about it to draw attention to say we see you and you have no power left anymore." She's referring to the fact that she's going to talk about resistance in order to expose it so that it will no longer have any power in our lives. I rewinded to hear it again and clearly interpret what she said.

The voices of opposition that I hear (and I'm not jesting, lol, this is 100 per cent "100") include (but aren't limited to): "You're singing off-key! Too bad such a great song you wrote will be buried in the bad vocals/horrid mixing/etc.)" "This music is pretty nerdy, just like you. That's so cute! Maybe you should go apply at a children's Vacation Bible School Musical so the kids won't know any better!" and perhaps the unkindest cut of all, "AWW! You're DEF gonna win that top prize for 'Singer With the MOST Hungry Like The Wolf Impersonation Skill'" Holy Spirit generally Tells me "Yo, I literally GAVE you this song, does My Satisfaction with it not matter to you? Nerdy's fine, and VBS is great, and ain't nothin' wrong with a 'howl and a whine' or sounding SUPER-80s... So can you please stop fretting, My neurotic one??" I've been inhaling these Worship U videos this past week, and for the first time I'm finally accepting everything as it is and refuse to let myself keep silencing, erm, myself. Prayers for all my fellow songwriters and would-be singers...and would-be songwriters/fellow singers, too. We're singing To Him, anyway, after co-labouring With Him, as sister Kalley described it. Bright blessings to this ministry and everyone reading this

@karen G Are you serious? This is why we have so many Christians walking around and being consumed with the spirit of religion. It’s relationship stuff, she’s preaching what she knows and what God delivered her from. ‘The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy’ so when you testify to what Jesus has done for you, you are prophesying that he will do it again for someone else.
