It’s been decade since i graduated from Sambotta High School but I never knew the insight of my principal on lot of things like how the school was founded. As far as remember Tibetan language is not the main priority for sambota school. Some of my friend came from this school had elementary level of Tibetan language skill when they are in grade 6/7!!!

There is no hard-and-fast rule of transcribing Tibetan into English. Still there is a generally accepted way of doing it. Originally the school was called Sambodha. Later they changed it to Sambotta. If the school is named after Thonmi, the father of Tibetan grammar and literature, it should have been Sambhota. I don’t know Sambodha or Sambotta being one of the many epithets of Saraswati in Sanskrit. Yes, Sambhota is a Sanskrit word meaning the Noble Tibetan, said to be the honorific bestowed on him by his teachers or classmates while studying in India.
