Hamsanadam is an exclusive audava ragam, with 5 notes and does not contain gandharam and dhaivatam, as it is sung in current days and thus it is a janya of 60th Melakarta Neetimati. In olden days shatsruti dhaivatam(D3) was there in the scale compared to current usage (that is,shadava scale with 6 notes in ascending and descending scale), with a vakra prayoga (zig-zag) descending scale! Apart from this one- 'kalyana rama' by Oottukkadu Venkata kavi, other popular krities in the ragam are- ' Bantureethi Koluvu' by Tyagaraja,'Niye Paramukham' by Papanasam Sivan, 'Kripanidhe' by Muthiah Bhagavatar n 'Bharama Ee Baluni' by GNB, ..Paavana Guru Pavanapura by Lalitha Dasa; Paahi jagajanani &, Sankara Sreegiri by Maharaja Swati Tirunal!!! OST, as he is fondly known, had once in an Interview, called upon vocalists to spread 'Sasthriya Sangeetham' while presenting his memories on Guru's advice..'Never try to get applause by singing something absurd and if you don’t get applause despite sensible singing never bother'!. This he said for revealing his utmost reverence for the two Thyagarajas - the saint composer and his guru Sangeetha Kalanidhi T.M. Thyagarajan! Here he did present a wonderful rendition a very vibrant ragaalapana that probed to the depth of the ragam n very precisely maintained the enchanting feel of the ragam throughout the rendition. Loved his instant brigas that filled gaps in words while singing Charanam despite in slow pace under 'Maddhyama '. On listening the beauty of Charanam line, I felt for his skipping Charanam 2 and 3 ( sang only Charanam1) . Overall , Should say the kalapramana of the recital maintaining the tempo is superb!.

One of the best Hamsanadhams I have ever heard by none other than the one and only OST mama. Enna oru kural valarchi....appadi asadhyamana sareeram! Pramadam! So many beautiful pidigal to practice from. The combination of brighas and jaarus are in perfect proportion of each other! A delight and thrill to hear for sure.
