One of the highlights of the first day at San Diego Comic-Con was the Hall H panel for the upcoming Indian sci-fi epic Kalki 2898AD. Previously known as Project K, the film boasts a roster of huge film stars in India including Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas, and brings classical mythology to a science fiction setting.
In this interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub at San Diego Comic-Con, Kalki 2898AD director and writer Nag Ashwin and one of the stars of the film Kamal Haasan talked about the creation of the epic sci-fi universe. The pair also talked about how the process of shooting varies across film industries in India, and how they differ from the American process. They also teased bringing mythology to life in Kalki 2898AD.

Pretty sure the interviewer doesn't have an idea that he has a legend sittin before him in the interview . i may not agree with Kamal on politics and general sociology , but as an actor the man is probably one of the best actors of all time in the world . Not a f**kin exaggeration at all . Some actors have range , some have ability to emote and convey , and some have screen presence . this man is one of the rare few in the history of world cinema to have all three turned up to full throttle . In my opinion he s definitely better than de niro in terms of being a complete actor . De Niro is a great actor and interesting as a performer but he plays all his roles almost the same way with minor variations here and there . Kamal on the other hand completely morphs into the character he is playin in the movie . Case in point dasavatharam , which forces us to add a capital S to the end of the word and type in characterS in order to accurately describe what actually transpired 😽 . Pacino and Brando are the only actors I'd place in the same league as Kamal . Much respect sir 👏👏

Wow! Sci-Fi meets Indian mythology! What an idea! A blend of Sci-Fi and Indian mythology is going to be a heady mix! Nag Ashwin wrote and directed a short Sci-Fi film in Pitta Kathalu, a Netflix anthology on human relations in advanced digital age. It is very well written and executed, deep and tbought provoking. I like the ambition of the movie. I wish Nag Ashwin did more interview prep. His posture, demeanour, and what he says are underwhelming and don’t garner much excitement. I wish he reveals a bit more passion and talks more about the world and the setting in which the movie takes place. A page out of Rajamouli garu’s book would be great. Using a bit of the premise of the story rather than purely the stars and imagery for promotion builds confidence and we audiences have been burnt by flashy teasers and trailers only to be disappointed with the actual movie. I wish the team good luck, and I look forward to the movie.

In my opinion a Director should never be interviewed before the release of the film especially when the movie is 9 months away from release - they only struggle to make sure they don’t reveal.
