Sholay was the KGF, Bahubalhi, RRR of those days. But highly inspired by American western Genre, adaptation of Japan's 7 samurai. Old Clint Eastwood Movie, but with a bit of masala. Big scale yet very human.

I don't think you get the point here. Except bollywood, all of the south indian film industries are united. Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam these industries are already together. They even have a 'Filmfare Awards South' award function to award all of them together. People never had a problem when Bollywood used to be the face of indian cinema right ? literally every indian film used to be called a "bollywood film" by the world, and now that new bollywood is sinking in its own shit (not Old bollywood which was Awesome) and south indian films are taking over, you wanna call them "Indian Films" huh ? Waah bhai ! Call them by the name of their respective industries(Indian Tamil/Telugu/Kannada/Malayalam film) and give the credit where its due.

Some people are treating South Indian films almost like as if it is an invasion of Chinese/Japanese films on Bollywood. Just shows how much divide and prejudice exists in Bollywood and the lack of nationalism. India is not just Bombay film industry and people need to get out of their shell and see other non-hindi language movies as well if made well. Whoever asks these type of questions is very prejudiced and having massive heartburn. Hindi films for last 15 years have been using the same formula being dominated by the Khans with few exceptions or either having overdose of multiplex Artsy realistic movies or too much Item songs or made with Pakistani actors/singers...etc. Bollywood has gone into non-Indian hands while South movies still retain the Indian ethos.

Hindi Film Industry has always ruled whenever its main heroes are in their prime phase like in 1950-60s DilipSaab-Devanand-RK & then in early 1970s Rajesh Khanna then in 1970s to late 80s Amitabh, then comes a similar dull phase in late 80s with Amit Ji's fall then again Hindi Film Industry flourished with the rise of 3 KHANS from 1990s to 2017 & now again Hindi Film Industry seeing dull phase with the bad time of KHANS. Hope this dull phase will be end with Pathaan, Jawan, Dunki & Tiger3. For any FI it requires good writers & risk-taking Directors-Producers duo, that is lacking now in HFI.

Perfect cinema has no language. Matter is the 'perfection'. When the bollywood blockbuster 'kaho na pyar hai' released in india, it was a sucess in south india too. In kerala the movie got a gigantic wave in theaters and the movie released without dubbing !! Take the hollywood movies in india. Titanic, jurasic park,Rambo...etc. These movies are released in original version not dubbing version. I still remember when the movie 'jurasic park' released in kerala (1994) in our town Thrissur , that massive rush in theater !! We had struggled to get two tickets to watch the movie. And somthing same in time of the big bollywood movie 'Border' released in kerala. So th acceptance of the movie subject to sucess irrespective of language.

Exactly brother...i don't know if you come from south or not...but people nowadays bashing hindi movies unnecessarily...just because few of the movies from south which depicts der actors as demi god are cashing big at box office... Few people here in the comment section even bashing Kamal Hassan forr his remarks on Sholay.......why this hate.. Sholay was a classic masala movie but it's cinematography and production was well ahead from any regional movie industry in those times...with that it was an adaptation of the classic American western cinema... something like Clint Eastwood films...and if Kamal Hassan praising something why can't you digest it...... he's talking about great cinema...not movies where a hero beats the shit out of 100 guys all alone. I do agree with the fact that plenty of hindi movies are not coming with any new ideas...like heropanti...baaghi..radhe... bacchan pandey...race 3... Satyamev Jayate... But plenty of great cinema also been der if you really has a taste......i don't know if anyone did a movie like paan singh tomar...or gangs of Wasseypur...or the legend of Bhagat Singh...or chak de or Swades...or dil chahta hai...from south... except few actors...(Kamal, Vikram, Madhavan, Mohanlal, Vijay sethupati) If you love your mother tongue that's great...but please be generous and humble.. appreciate the hard work and determination of other film industries..and stop going gaga over non sensical movies Only few actors in south did experiment like Kamal Hassan did over the years...i would say Vikram chiyaan shares the same league...but apart from him no other actor tried anything different...

No body was scared of Hindi movies, except Kamal jee but still he acted in EK DUJE KE LIYE, but in telugu Super Star Krishna made MOSAGALLAKU MOSAGADU, a cow boy film which was dubbed many countless langauges and was screened on more than 100 countries are less in 1973 or so. NO movie like sholay was made before it happened in Hindi language, but many movies of same like were made in telugu and other South languages.

Its not about bollywood vs south. Karan johar and some bunch of star kids don't alone represent bollywood. Lot of good talents in bollywood but nepotism has taken over the regime. The day nepotism dies bollywood will rise again. Lets not fuel this bollywood vs south concept. It should be south vs star kids/nepotism in bollywood. South people have been watching bollywood movies for so many years and North people support south movies a lot especially in recent times. So no hate for any particular industry. Our fight should be against nepotism and those who fuel nepotism and those who trying to convert bollywood into mafia and those who bringing the toxic culture. In the end Indian movies should rise.

Kamal is a Legend but we didn't scare seeing Sholay we made many gr8 gud films before sholay rit frm MR Radha Shivaji ganesan & many films in black b white time wch bollywud use to remake till nw they r doing only remakes few hindi films wer gud those time. I know Bollywood is blamed for making remakes and I want them to stop doing this. But do South Indian people know that even south industries have made 100s of Hindi movie remake in their language. Yours perspective as an audience about film making couldn't counter his arguments since he is an experienced actor and so i will assumed that he knows more than you. Also, i want to say that good experimental movies from south is only trending since last few years but before that the south movies were masala type movies with predictable plots. Also, don't bash bollywood unnecessarily just because its in trend. There are so many movies releasing this year and next year as well like Brahmastra, lal singh chaddha , pathan, dunki, tiger 3, etc. So i think its legit that if some director and actor says that they are afraid of bollywood movies.

I am a tamilian, I don't accept RRR, Bahubali,KGF as the best films from South India. There were legends like Bharathiraja,Balachander,Balumahendra, Mahendran,Bhagyaraj,K.Viswanath,Bharathan,Kirish karnad and many more from South industries. Cheran,Thangerbachan, Vasanth abalan, vetrimaran,Ameer..list is endless. These movies stories are very ordinary story with extra ordinary VFX and fast screenplay. They don't become a benchmark. Vikram is far technically superior than these movies. It's all about audience and their choices.
