America’s climate policy affects the World, so who they elect as the next president affects the world. We outside the USA don’t have a vote but we have a right to express an opinion on matters that affect us. There’s no need to hold back from saying how they should vote. They need to vote for Harris, for their own sake and ours. A vote for Trump will do far more than just destroy the US.

They're all connected, so it's not hard to _care_ about them all. You only really need to choose in terms of where to focus your energy when you _take action_ to make things better, as no one person can do everything. If you take action to strengthen the rights of historically marginalised groups, including the right to bodily autonomy, for a fairer economy or anti-war, you're also taking action to stop exploitation of the planet and the associated habitat destruction.These issues all spring from the same root, ultimately, so tackling one will also influence what happens with the others. In the specific case of war, anti-war action has very direct impact on local habitats as well as GHG levels. There is such a thing as misguided climate action, like eco-fascism, but if you understand the issues you'll easily see that such approaches don't actually lead to a habitable planet regardless of their claims.

Facts are not religion, you can understand or not understand them. But you cannot believe or not believe in them.

Do you know how to compare daily average temperatures since 1880? Or do you just reference an "expert" opinion? The data is available but the data doesn't show a radical warming trend. It's up and down - some years warmer, some years cooler. The thermometer was invented at the end of the so-called Little Ice Age - no Imperial data exists before then. Be aware that government agencies such as NOAA alter the historic data to erase warming periods such as the 1930s - so as to show warming since the 1990s. The unmodified climate data is available. Be aware that only the USA has extensive historic climate data. The coast to coast USA railroads collected weather data.
@theanarkiddie45694 ай бұрын
@@timothykeith1367this isn’t correct, scientists can reconstruct the climate for hundreds of years ago through the use of ice cores: when snow settled in the Antarctic, it traps tiny pockets of gas. These are like “time capsules” which preserve the composition of the atmosphere at specific points, so we can see the levels of oxygen, nitrogen, CO2 etc across time. From these, we can construct very accurate climate reconstructions without the need for thermometer data. Further, i don’t know what data you’re looking at, because all actual graphs of average temperature show huge increases in the temperature anomaly across time. The “unmodified” graphs you’re looking at are probably fake. Thousands of climate scientists across dozens of countries using hundreds of different research methods have all collected the same data: earth is warming as a result of human activity, specifically as a result of the CO2 released by fossil fuels. Even fossil fuel companies know this! I suggest you search for your favourite oil and gas companies and you’ll see that their website will tell you that climate change is real! What reason could they have to “lie” by telling you about the reality of climate change?🤔

Old world monkeys in Mexico are dropping out of tree unconscious because of heat stroke/heat exhaustion and dying upon hitting the ground to whole colony of emperor penguin (around 500?) dying of heat stroke to global shortage of olive oil... A fundamental problem with the USA and UK voting system is that it is first past the post. Here in Australia we have a preferential voting system which means if your first choice isn't elected, then your vote goes to your next allocation. This opens up candidates beyond the binary major parties, and prevents splitting the vote amongst progressive (or right wing) candidates. Along with proportional representation it means more citizens are enfranchised in parliamentary representation.

To be able to sit down and talk to people who don’t agree with you is not a bad thing, Bobby has zero problem with that, many party fanatics don’t agree with a blue talking to a red and vice versa, and I find that to be a direct product of a person who allows their emotions act without the benefit of their intellect. The Declaration of Independence was not a document wrote by all in group. It took some serious discussion but at the end, it was done. I wish our politicians were able to remember, we should be united and take care of our country, but unfortunately greed is like a cancer and it is tearing up apart. Democracies around the world have different ways of creating party systems, but I feel extremely uncomfortable with the binary that is present in countries like the UK, US and France. Sure, other countries also used to offer only a choice between one or another party at some point in their recent history, or in practical terms the majority parties of coalitions are one the same left-right axis. But the system of the US is just too infuriatingly stubborn with how policies are presented as mirrors of each other. I haven't extensively studied the policies that either candidate has proposed, or ones they have fought to vote in and execute, but I get a strong sense of how the Republican candidate is going the Eco-Fascist route while the Democratic candidate still believes in Green Capitalism. I take these terms from a sociological study the narratives that are presented as solutions to the climate crisis. The other two in the quadrant are Green New Deal (with more focus on socialism) and the other is whatever else people can come up with that sounds better to your likeliness of survival: to be clear, the study encourages us to think about the latter category because the alternatives are stifling the conversation and our public imaginary.

Do you see scientists studying the impact of policy decisions being done and shared? I've been able to find some DOD projects in specific areas and you do a great job of showing us the overall trends and their impacts in a complex system. In this video you're giving a great overview of the big picture politics but so few people understand what's occurring locally and what projects benefit them the most when it comes to local climate shifts. People seem to have this big picture: pollution bad, hard to do stuff about it concept but the more focused understandings which can have local impacts in everything from food prices to social justice reforms are much less likely to be considered. Especially when the only other viable candidates in many elections not only don't have a plan but outright deny there should be one. Have you seen studies in such a context and if so could you focus on a particular project you find interesting in a video? As always, thanks for your videos, scientists sharing our information in conversational manners to the public is vital for understanding our world and how our decisions impact it.

didn’t harris’s team say that she was going back on her promise to stop fracking…
@ClimateAdam4 ай бұрын
yup it seems so - looks like she's trying to court the centre ground with her position on fracking

Might just be saying that for her campaign, just because she says she’s not going to ban fracking doesn’t mean she won’t

Maybe fossil fuel is receiving tax breaks because it is still heavily relied upon in producing technologies that provide renewable energy. In addition, these incentives are often justified by the need to maintain energy security. Al is revolutionary but it is heavily reliant on energy. as are the production of mobile phones batteries and semiconductors and still has a throwaway culture. Improvements have been made to batteries so they last longer, and phones can be refurbished like laptops and computers. The UK sends some of its waste to Türkiye and also Africa together with Europe. People in this cost-of-living crisis fly tip because they don't have the money to renew. The population needs more housing which means more energy requirements. Pressure on infrastructure with all those cemented driveways increased flooding. As for Project 25, if my comprehension is correct, think there would be a migration of talented people accompanied by their families to more liberal territories and if things got extreme some states may seeking independence from the United States. Other people might emigrate to Mexico, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Morocco.

Thanks for pulling this together. I'm embarrassed over how much of this is new information for me. I knew Trump is a climate nightmare but my picture of where Harris stands was fuzzy. This helps. I'm commenting to nudge the algorithm into giving you a broader audience. Keep up the good work.

Hype. Nothing will fundamentally change, as the democratic party machine repeatedly promises. One of the only ones it ever keeps.

I was thinking you could have given Trump's positive side as being a force for human decline. In his previous administration saw spread of COVID-19 and a subsequent reduction of CO2 emissions through very unpleasant means. Human decline is hard to embrace.

Both candidates unconditionally support Ishmael. Continued support for Ishmael will result in vwv3. The notion that we can fight both that and climate change at the same time is nonsensical.

Thank you for this helpful (outsider) review of climate policy evidence by our (probable) presidential candidates. Don't cancel my tsunami notifications, yikes! Much lesser of two evils, 30% reduction by 2030 is nice but pretty sure 50% is the global goal. Raise our voices during a climate emergency = time to yell before it's hot as hell.

So, you make some interesting points and I can see where you’d be concerned. I’d like to point out that both parties have worked with the Heritage Foundation writers from what I’ve heard and it can be that neither have adopted the writings therein. So, this is defamatory is a way. Also, COVID shutdowns happen AFTER the 2020 (here), but you refer to that as a reason his numbers were lower. (He wasn’t in office then, so you maybe have a different timeline of events). Also, Democrats had extreme documents too that started coming out in 2016. Project 2020/now 2030 stuff where it mentioned “Medical Devices” and ways to track people). That was scary stuff. Many don’t any of the extremes, ESPECIALLY if it means loosing fundamental freedoms and liberties to come under a global government/system. I believe there’s a middle ground for us all and hope that the work between Trump/ Robert Kennedy will get us on the right track. We need good mutual ground. 🇺🇸 I feel it’s more important make sure our government is accountable via a press that’s unbias, we need to be less involved in wars, and have some economic stability/less government waste. And in that we can also tackle environmental issues. We can do both.

Okay okay...the NUMBER ONE problem in climate crisis is... COWS! (eg., animal and fish agriculture) over fossil fuels. EXTREME TAX 😜on animal agriculture in all advanced nations, including the USA with the getting rid of animal agriculture as the final goal, which Kamala Harris doesn't have (which, hopefully, she should do). For my part, I will do VC (venture capital) with a plant-based foodtech and ESG since I'm not a politician. Haha

No doubt Harris is the best candidate, but she needs to move much further than the position she took in her first TV interview as candidate: she needs to say no to fracking and no to Netanyahu

Capital decides what get built according to whatever is the easiest to profit off of. Governments are installed by a political process largely financed and controlled by capital. The public's opinion is manipulated by the billionaire owned media. Capital has captured everything. Our problems are not scientific, there is no shortage of solutions. Our problems are political.

I live in a country where 26% is under sea level, and yes, I live in that 26%, the one that happens to be the most densely populated. The way I see it, it's 5 to midnight as far as our chances to prevent irreversible climate disaster. I hope to all that is good and sacred that Kamala gets the win. Four years of republican presidency will ruin us all.
