This song always reminds me of Marco. I can't remember his last name, but he was from Finland and a very big fan of Kamelot. His photo is in the back of One Cold Winter's Night, with Thomas. He had muscular dystrophy, but never let his disorder get in the way of being the most honest, compassionate human being I've ever known. He died from a hole in his heart. I didn't know him that well, but he's still left a lasting impression on me. Rest in peace, buddy.

One other year has left my life One year bygone so soon These were the days I sacrificed These days were lived for you Some came with winter in white Some days were blown away Some came with sultry summer nights Some with October rain Oh, how I long for utter silence But who am I to know When rain will turn to snow? #1 fav song of all time. You can feel the seasons passing through you, and you're gliding through it, with the knowledge that though you will die one day, you still have the moments. That's all that matters. I love playing this on piano.

Oohhh how I looong for utter siiiillleeenncce. This single track carries more emotional weight than most albums do in their entirety. It is an absolute crime that this is not present on the regular release. Imagine my delight when I had been listening to what may be my favorite album of all time for years, then finding this track, and it is just perfect in every conceivable way. Epica/Kamelot is the greatest power/proggy/melodic metal duo in history.

Kamelot says it has no relation to Black Halo. If you disagree then you disagree with the band that created the song. The lyrics are a love letter from Roy Khan to Kamelot fans who watch him on tour.

I don't know if this song relates at all to the Epica/Black Halo storyline, but here is my interpretation of it. I could very well also be wrong on my understanding of those albums, but here we go... In 'Interlude III - Midnight', it sounds as though one of the townspeople (possibly the actor playing Ariel) walks away from the crowd to someplace secluded and wishes someone a Happy New Year. To me, he is visiting a graveyard or a location where his lover died and gives his blessing to them, paralleling the story of Ariel and Helena. In 'Epolouge', the same man is reflecting over the fact that he has lived another year without his beloved, and that he remains on this Earth to honor her similar to the way that Helena saved Ariel's soul from Mephisto. However, he still wishes to die ('Oh, how I long for utter silence') so that he can join her, but he does not known when that will be, so he will keep experiencing life ('But who am I to know when rain will turn to snow if life brings another day?'). These two concept albums constantly use the seasons as a metaphor for the cycle of life, and rain turning to snow here refers to his death. Then, the song ends with the soft playing of instruments. This is the Serenade referred to in the previous song, which again, represents the passing of time and life. The melody slowly fades away, which represents our own songs of life growing fainter until they peacefully end... Anyway, that's just the way I see it. But I think it's a beautiful interpretation, and follows through the themes set of upon in many of the earlier songs in this wonderful set of concept albums. I hope others enjoyed my interpretation as well.

@leavesofgrey I do agree that this is a track worthy of Black Halo, but you have to remember that Black Halo is a concept album, encompassing a story in order. Perhaps this song didn't really fit in to the grand scheme of the album.

@darkshadow978115 жыл бұрын
I like that sentiment. And Maestro, everyone has a choice to think and feel however they want, musical opinions included. If someone doesn't want to think Kamelot is talented, they don't have to. Like I said, perspective, and their talent, while yes, I'd agree is very obvious, some others might not call it that. Remember, perspective. And please avoid further arguments on this, it does tend to lead to clutter.

I disagree... The first lyrics are "Another year has left my life" and this 3 album story is roughly over that period of time. And the way that piano just fades out to leave your imaginantion...... I think saying it bears no relation to the album is wrong. It's an Epilogue, it's not needed, but it relates to the story

I really like Tommy, and he is probably the best singer to take over the place of Kamelot's singer. But he's still not Roy... If only Roy could come back and be re-integrated into Kamelot, like them both singing duets, or Roy sings one song and Tommy sings the other song.

Quite representative of what Roy's voice can do. He could go up and down the notes and the different frequences in a so unique emotional way! It's difficult to replace him. Tommy is a very good singer and I'm sure they will do a great record. But good powerfull voices like him we've heard a lot in power and prog metal, I don't think there is smthg really special about him. But that's life. Another era starts and taking a clone of Roy wouldn't be a solution neither......

darkshadow is right - It is a matter of opinion and personal taste. It is right that talent is talent but there is plenty of well-played, technically brilliant music that I dislike just because the style of music being played isn't my cup of tea. See?? Just because someone doesn't agree with your tastes doesn't make them wrong. Having said all that, I humbly submit that Kamelot "Rule the World" - Haha :)
