I grew up in Wailua and everyone knows the Fernandez family. I was never real close with the boys but we knew eachother. They are great people. Well respected and solid. A special family, stewards of a special place. Something needs to be done.

Auwe... our ancestors frown upon you who make these decisions, and your ancestors who come after will from upon you for making that decision too. Preserving anything of hawaiian culture only perpetuates the life of the righteous land we have left. Please let Governor Ige and DLNR Director Suzanne Case know that this is not OK. I know that the DLNR faces some many challenges in its effort the properly manage our public lands. However, it makes no sense to terminate the lease held by a Hawaiian family who has served as an important, culturally relevant resource for our community for generations. Really? Kaua'i has already loss so much of its rich culture I within my lifetime (I'm 65 years old). You just have to ask yourself, is this action by the DLNR necessary? Does it serve the public interest? Can we afford to lose yet another cultural resource? Really?
