King Kamehameha conquered most of the Hawaiian Islands during his reign through bloodshed, except for two: Kauaʻi and Niʻihau. The King was able to acquire the unconquered kingdom through diplomacy rather than war. Host Kamaka Pili speaks with Chucky Boy Chock of Kauaʻi Museum, to learn how the Hawaiian Kingdom was finally established.

I remember my kumu in Hawaiian Studies teaching us about mana. The fatter the person, the more mana they are able to hold. Mana could be taken through various acts. Like sexual and combat in battle.

The Hawaiians on Ni’ihau wouldn’t want to go back after tasting ice cream from MacDonalds? That also reminded me what my kumu said. Hawaiians would trade acres of land for booze and iron nails.

What a positive spin on what was terrible battles for land and dominant control of all the people on the Islands , so many killed and then enslaved by Kamehameha to make him and his family rich and destroy the Islands in their taking all the sandalwood and selling it to foreigners which opened the door for invasive weeds and destruction of habitat for native animals. So much for anyone else to be accused of stealing away their paradise...Kamehameha destroyed it but all the other leaders on those Islands constantly fought each other for land and treated their people badly like slaves . Sorry to say but when the US Military took over the Island people began to enjoy personal and family freedoms like never before those people loved the USA. The Japanese had invaded China the the Philippines killing and raping many millions of children and women and men and the Japanese were attacking Hawaii next and looking to do the same there but were stopped by the USA military. Look up the Rape of Manila for starters... Many militant Islanders want the Islands free from the USA protection but that would open the door for terrorist groups waiting in the Philippines to invade Hawaii like the Hamas did to Israel . We are all stronger together against evil...evil that would kill you without a thought. Some teachers and school principals in Hawaii teach to overthrow the USA yet the Islands have no military of their own to protect their people without the USA and to do so would be suicide for the Hawaiian people.
