But his lessons are lost on the people who were born long after his death. People are obsessed with labels, and are oblivious to character today. prejudice is alive within minority groups today- like never before. People get a passion behind what they're told to get angry at, not what they have thought out independently, or personally experienced. People are triggered by what words they're taught to be triggered at. Almost like a kind of "dog whistle"they have been taught to hear.
@frankpaya6904 жыл бұрын
What he's talking about is not looking at titles, but actually looking beneath that at the character of an individual. He's talking about how being certain things,( in people's minds) determines what that person is like as far as personality goes, and how that is a misnomer, although in certain cultures it carries an identity- beyond just skin color, that people accept as a given, by virtue of being that skin color. Or belonging to a certain religion. If you're a Jew, you must be greedy. if You're a Muslim: you would have to be an intolerant murderer, of anybody that wasn't Muslim.

Elijah Muhammad gave the Black man a mythology using Islamic and Arab decadent history to raise up the Blackman. Eastern Islam has never had any connection or empathy for the Blackman’s cause in America. Malcom was the greatest recruiter the NOI ever had and made a great contribution to his people. However, he was aware of Eastern Muslims and their lack of support for Elijah Muhummad because they never understood his Mythology. Black America needed Elijah and Malcolm. They both woke us up. Anytime there is a disagreement between two people doesn’t mean one is unnecessary. It just means that they have differences. They both were sincere same as Dubois and Booker T. Washington. Elijah like Garvey was a separatist and Malcolm became an integrationist. Plain and simple. We are better off today for both of them. Now, find yourself some peace.

At the beginning of this speech he implicated that he had been lied to by the black muslims but he did not out right say that, he realized the truth when he went on his pilgrimage, he was on the verge of becoming more influential than EM and LF. You can tell that Obama has studied his speeches, one of the reasons I voted for him twice but the people we vote for are not in charge of this country, ISIS is the new Sandinistas of Nicaragua with Reagan in the 80's, the US war machine arms then disarms, war pushing, I like when X said you have to "Speak their language" in order to communicate, and it's sad that the universal way to communicate in this world is violence.

I am a white male. When Malcolm first came to the scene, I disliked him because I felt he leaned towards violence. As I grew older and as Malcolm began to express himself with a little more patience and love, I began to recognize the greatness of this man. He wanted for his Black brothers/sisters to have self respect and lead a rightful life. What he wanted was proper. He was a hero for the human race. I wish that he were alive today because I believe totally that he would NOT respect Obama. I believe that Malcolm loved his country and just wanted an equal playing ground. He did NOT want entitlements. His leadership represented the best of his culture. If you lived in his shoes and history, you would appreciate his goal. I am a conservative and know that Obama is destroying the UsA with his effort to redistribute the wealth to all the third world countries and weaken us to make us more like the rest of the world. Malcolm X would not accept Obama's ideology. I wish a good Black man who also loves his country and does not want to create a dependent society of blacks waiting for their entitlements comes along. I would vote for that man gladly. A man who wishes to protect his race would not want white folks to not protect themselves. He is a great man. I wish more people knew his history.

Malcolm X would've chewed the crap out of Obama had he'd been alive to see him become president.

Malcolm would've had the highest respect for Obama because he is a black man. Malcolm is Obama's role model who was changed just like you people. White people don't really understand black people, or they wouldn't make that statement. Malcolm wanted to work with his people and would've welcome Obama. Most black people didn't want anything to do with Malcolm when he was out in the streets recruiting for the messenger. What did you brothers and sisters thimk Obama was going to do for us.

Thank you for posting this still relevant and remarkable speech by Malcolm X. Malcolm has been a hero of mine for many, many years, and I think it's very sad that he doesn't receive more universal recognition for his dignity, straightforwardness, admission of flawed thinking, change of attitude, amazing speaking ability, and his courage and conviction to do what he felt was right and just, not what would be comfortable and popular. To me, the key points to take away from this speech is that Malcolm X knew he was putting his life in danger by disclosing things he did. And although he changed thinking of judging people by the color of their skin, profoundly taught to him by his trip to Mecca, he still never wavered a bit from his feeling that a people who are continuously wronged, abused, mistreated, violated and killed, should Always defend themselves to protect their rights, their property, and their lives. To me, that's what's at the core of the one line that Malcolm is more famous for than any other: "... By any means necessary." But it's equally important to know the context and listen to, and understand, what he said right before that statement.
