Good chopper! It's actually huge inside. Like a big bus. I was very surprised when I saw it personally.

Не красивые , а продуманные двух осные , двух винтовые , а одно вентовые могут поймать воздушную ловушку и упасть на ровном месте.

Robert W Thank you for your comment . Why is that? I don't know, but I do agree with what you say.

Because of a pragmatic "form follows function"-autism. Just look at the An94 or AEK107-series in automatic rifles. Problem was recoil, and instead of doing incremental changes like everyone else (reducing weight of piston and bolt etc) they went completely bananas. The AN94 shoots the second round before the recoil from the first has reached the shooter by using a coil and moving barrel system (world first). The AEK handles the same problem by launching a counterweight forward (synced with a small gear) to change the recoil to a tiny wobble. This dual rotor solution is just another version of that principle. A helicopter wants to turn due to the momentum from the rotors. The tail rotor wastes energy. So Kamov simply added a tandem counter rotating rotor array and got rid of the need for a tail rotor. This is a mentality that you will see everywhere with Russian innovations. This is probably a factoid, but when the americans spent millions developing "space ink" that could write in vacuum, extreme cold, upside down etc the Russians just used graphite pens. But it illustrates how Russians approach problems, and why some solutions look seriously wonky.

I wonder why Japan is not producing their own helicopters ?
@chippydesu5 жыл бұрын
symmetry08 Thank you for your comment . I think that it is difficult because the production cost becomes huge when starting from development although it produced in the past.

I respect for Japan but you could produce a bit smaller helicopters with the same coaxil principal machine with simplified version involving a bit of electrification as well. What I mean is make co-axil blade without these complex levers that has to be oiled in this Kamov for example. Simplification is that they are rigid kind with two electric motors on the sides for forward motion thrust and also they could change angles as in Osprey, and they would act as if conventional copter-mode yo-turn and to the sides movement. It does not have to have a heavy batteries but only capacitor ( it actually does not need it ) which would syphon extra electric currents generator and give few extra juice, in case, main engine failure. Electric motors assist for immediate and fast take off from ground plus to main rotor that which has to pick up spin. It would look like Eurocopter X-3 and Osprey with less service demand.
