My friend has a couple of redfoots and they are so sweet. They walk right up to you and appreciate some pets on the head and between the scutes. When petting between the scutes they wiggle their butt :D

Thank you for this video. I just got two red footed tortoises from a friend who bought them from a pet store and didn’t know how to care for them. After a week of her having them they weren’t eating. It’s fall here in Massachusetts and it’s to cool outside for them. I put them in a much bigger tank, with proper heat lamps and started feeding them that tortoises diet and they love it. They also eat kale & strawberries. I named them Gomez & Morticia 🐢

Hey Kenan, I just wrote a paper on sulcata Tortoises and it is all thanks to you, my teacher loved it and i told her i got ALL my info from your videos, mostly because I don't really trust anyone with tortoise knowledge but you. You are super awesome!

You mentioned that the Red Foot Tortoise was vegetarian. I’m fairly certain that they are omnivorous. I’ve had my male for twenty-three years. He does enjoy red worms, potato bugs and other soft and squishy bugs I can forage. He doesn’t get that all the time, but I do make sure to supplement as often as I can. The Mazuri Tortoise diet does mention in their ingredients for the Red Foot that they are in fact an omnivorous tortoise. I love your passion, and I’m truly not trying to be a know it all. But I’ve lived a very long time with Buster and I feel he’s quite content.

I love your videos! Something the internet is lacking a lot of is building an indoor enclosure for ADULT SIZE red foots. Many videos cover how to build an outdoor enclosure almost nothing can be found on how the common red foot tortoise owner can build a full size indoor enclosure. I have one cherry head rescue that a local PetCo was going to euthanize because they couldn't solve the shell rot problem (Chlorhexidine Antiseptic works like a charm 100% of the time for me) and one red foot tortoise. Can you PLEASE make a video on this?

I was planning on buying a Hatchling but Found a women that needed to get rid of hers.. about 2 to 3 yrs old. Picking up Saturday.. my enclosure was designed for very young so I had to modify, added cat grass in groups. Stones, everything.. but my 55 gallon open air rubbermaid is awesome.. live plants that will be gone(LOL) in a week once the Red Foot gets in.. I was planning on growing in enclosure but... 3 yr old eats a ton..I know I will need an upgrade next yr.. but its large...probably build my next enclosure, not wood of any kind but something??? its fun to get ready...

Love the videos man. Very informative. I've acquired a red foot who had a broken acute. It seems to have been peeled completely off. To my knowledge it's been like this for years and she appears to be happy and healthy. It's just unsettling that there's exposed bone there. Any feedback on how I might treat this issue the best? Don't redfoots need protein? Do yours just eat bugs and whatever they find outside or do you give them any extra?

They do need protein, but really only when they are young and developing. It's not necessary for the adults, and even when they are younger they should only be given occasional protein.

Do you supply a heat lamp for your Marginated tortoises in the winter or if it reaches a certain temperature at night? I live in the Palm Springs, CA area where the lows are in the mid 30’s and summers can get to 120 degrees. I rescued my 2yr old red foot 9 days ago & quickly realized he is not on a good sleep schedule. He will sleep & hide all day if I let him. He’s woken up for a soak on his own 1 day, but every other day I’ve woken him up at 10am. Lights go out at 7pm. I have tons of hiding places for him in his cage & he’s definitely taking advantage. I feel like I just have a box of dirt in my room 😂 Will she/he become more active once they trust me, or are they pretty sleepy creatures? I made lots of cage modifications as the previous owner had repti bark, I switched to repti soil for digging & humidity. The humidity wasn’t spiking past 40% in his old home & he lived in a cold apartment. Now his humidity is 70% & he has places to hide now. Maybe he’s just appreciating the hiding places he never had?

Amazing, informative video. How do you waterproof the zoo med enclosures so that they're able to be housed outdoors? I'm thinking of buying a baby red foot and housing it outdoors with the zoo med tortoise house during its early stages in life as a baby and then upgrading to a larger enclosure in the future. However, I'm worried if the wood will rot and mold when it gets wet outside.
