My 4 y/o redfoot is Yurtle the Turtle. I've never had a caged pet w/ so much personality! She actually lets me know when she wants attention by making a raucous & adores pets. She has a large water dish we keep warm under lights she uses as a hot-tub & I swear she does poses to make us laugh. My 4 y/o son is special needs & he's very interested in Yurtle, thinking she was a dinosaur at 1st. He'd try & talk to her by roaring quietly, which is amazing to see since he's unable to talk fully. Just such amazing animals that I believe have a natural wisdom to them!

I have a 13 year old red foot tortoise named Morty but his nickname is Buddha lol 😆 I love him more than anything he's my baby❤ He is super social, if he isn't sleeping then he is trying to climb his house's walls, to get to me❤ He is super affectionate, he loves to cuddle, be pet, have his shell scratched especially on his booty lol 😆 Anyone can hand feed him, he is definitely NOT a picky eater either lol 😄 He loves everyone but I know I'm his favorite because he insists on being out with me and he follows me around and stays with me etc I love taking him outside when it is nice enough for him. He's out in my apartment the entire time that I'm home❤ He never has accidents either. He's so intelligent amazing sweet cuddly social people don't expect turtles tortoises or reptiles usually in general to be so affectionate and have such personalities and want to be with their people but they really do 🥰 I could honestly continue to talk about my baby forever but this comment is probably already long enough lol 🤣

Great video! One thing I love about my cherry head is how easy it is to feed it. They just eat out of the fridge. Sure I have repticalc and pellets as supplements, but they are happy with a wide variety of vegetables and can also tolerate fruit. I am working on hand feeding and so far it’s going well. One thing that surprised me is how much the sleep! I sometimes have to wake him up to eat. It’s also a pro that they are diurnal: active during the day. My friend had a rodent that ran on a wheel all night long. No thanks!

Omg I just found your channel and I am absolutely in love with Peaches! I have a 10 year old male named Drizzle and he’s my entire world! One con that I think a lot of people run into is how they have a relatively higher requirement for protein in comparison to other species! Roughly ten percent of their diet needs to be in protein, this can of course be a turn off for some as they need a wide variety in their diet and there seems to be a misconception that tortoises can thrive solely on a herbivorous lifestyle! I hope this helps for some!

Also a tip, don't leave plants at ground level. They will be eaten to destruction by your red foot/cherryhead. Make sure any pots of plants are heavy and very secure, they will try and knock them over to get the leaves of the plant. Even if you plant a tall plant in the ground of your vivarium, they will bite the lower stem to make the branch fall and eat the whole stem and leaf as it's laying on the ground. They're very clever, and very destructive in regards to plant life and anything an omnivore can devour 👌😁

Random story: I own a pool and a flower bed. One time my redfoot tortoise thought she could fly off the flower bed. 2.5 ft height, she landed on her back and my mom watched her shit herself while turning her over…. Since.. she’s never left the flower bed. 😅 pretty smart. She was only outside after 6 inches…. They seem pretty smart… I’m glad she never tried that again.

I would love some tips on how to keep the humidity up, we have a table made with plexi glass in top we have coco husk always soaked, a terra cotta planter tray with water and also mist him and the enclosure 1-2x a day. Is this good enough? He’s only 4 months old but hides most the time. I have to take him out to soak him in his water and put infront of his food to encourage him to eat.

Gigi is 5 years old and eats like a horse .This year 2024 I made a decision to feed her every other day and usually give her a water soak once a week and on weekends . Great personality, especially when I'm in the kitchen. She begs, yes, begs. Question,i cursh my boiled egg shells and use it as calcium. What do you think of that ? She eats it all up ,plus her vitamins, E & D. Love you videos

How often do you clean the enclosure? My husband and I happened upon a lost baby red footed turtle yesterday while biking and I’ve been researching non stop! We live in Florida and I had never seen a small turtle like this. After I looked it up I realized it must have either been sadly dumped on the side of the road or somehow escaped. Poor little thing. I created a cozy little home for him (I researched what type of mulch and moss to use) so he can destress and he ate a bunch of strawberries and mazuri turtle food! I want him to live his best life so still trying to figure out what to do. I called a wildlife preserve but they wouldn’t take him so in the meantime I want him to be as comfy as possible.

I have to pull it out and sit it under the lamp. It will stay for a little while but goes back and hides. The other one is ALWAYS basking and eats but not a lot. Temp is around 90/100 and humidity is always high. Oh and they wont eat the dry feed. Only veggies and fruit. Any tips?

Just a question, I liked to hiked and there was once I found 2 tortoise that bright red in colour. Unfortunately it was raining heavy and could not take any picture of it using my android phone. Besides I already finish hiking and going back to my car and it was also late evening. Another interesting feature about the tortoise that it also have spike at the back of the shell. I try google it and could not find any bright red tortoise with spike, or at least I could not find any picture or info about bright red tortoise ( I mean they really red in colour, skin and shell). Not sure if its really a rare species. Any thoughts? And FIY, I was hiking in a reserved forest in Peninsular Malaysia.

And absolutely love reptiles and tortoises are my ultimate favorite! I am 47 so actually need to set up God parents for mine if I decided to get one. I have a nice backyard that I can build a nice area for it in the summer. My biggest concern is humility. I live in Ohio so winter time is a concern. I was hoping to set this aquarium and eventually tortoise box up in my living room so it can be social and feel loved. Any suggestions for the humidity concerns? Thanks
