Does My Argus Monitor HATE Me!

I have a 2.5 year old male Argus that’s about 5 foot and 15-20 pounds I’ve had him since he was 7 inches. One thing I’ve noticed about my work with the Argus is that they are very hesitant to bite. He will most likely always stay huffy and puffy. When you go to grab him Grab the base of his tail with one hand and slide your other hand under the midsection, as soon as you lift them to your eye level he will calm down a lot. You’ll see him start to think and chill out

Considering that any human stepping into the cage is the size of a Kaiju from the Pacific rim... I think this Argus monitor is being very restrained ! When he gets BIG, I bet he will be a calm, tripodding master ! And thanks Matt for enduring the cramped quarters to bring it all to us !

Gotta love those monitor lizards! There’s something especially bird-like about the smaller species like the Argus, Quince and Green Tree species. When we were younger my older brother wanted to raise a Komodo Dragon, train it to walk on a leash and to obey the command “attack.” Then he planned to sic it on the old guy down the block who always kept his balls (softballs, baseballs, etc) when they went in his yard. He moved from NYC down to So Fla years ago & now he’s a “wild and crazy Florida man.” Kenan probably knows someone like that... *Bahaha* 😂

He would be great in a suncatcher enclosure like you have for your croc monitor or the croc monitor pair enclosure when they need upgrading. loads of space to move and lots of height and floor space to make a lot of enrichment areas, and room for yo to interact with him. He is a very good looking lizard I look forward to seeing him getting somewhere near his full size he will look awsome.

This winter season is gonna be great 👌 Just a thought if you decide to reuse that enclosure the Argus is in might be worth using it as a snake enclosure, either for Colin or if you do get another snake then for that. I think its a bit clusterphobic for larger active lizards, I think especially as the enterance is on the narrow side of the cage. Just remembering that if I remember correctly you had the old Monkey tailed skinks in it and theh were fine cause they're generally a more chilled/slower species until they're touched. But since then you've had the Blue iguanas, crocodile monitors and Argus (can't remember what else has been in there) and they've always been very nervous in there until they got moved and have sinced calmed down a lot. In comparison to when they were in there at least as sure you might not be able to go over and mess with them physically like some of your other critters but they now tolerate your existence and will feed infront of you/come over to you VS before bolting from you on sight or just generally despising your existence 😂 And I'm sure with the Argus will also have a dramatic change when moved out of there too very quickly, sure not necessarily turning into another slinky straight away but I'm sure it will calm down to Chase levels pretty quickly.

You should do target training Kenan. Every time you feed bring a color Frisbee and that will become the food Frisbee and they will stop attacking when you enter if you don't have the Frisbee

Kenan.. 😂 so i live up here in WI. It’s a very small town. So i’m heading over to my parents house, approaching a red light.. and i look ahead.. there is something moving oddly across the road.. at first i thought it was a crumpled up brown paper bag.. but then i noticed it was moving more deliberately.. my eyes didn’t accept reality for a brief moment because it’s not every day A TORTISE is crossing the road!! 😂 i scooped the guy guy, he’s maybe 6”.. appears to be one of those Russian Tortises you see at Petcos often, atleast around here. I had one when i was a kid. But i’m not expert! It could be something else.. but i’m not sure what else would be up here haha And from watching your videos for the last 4 years.. i’m pretty sure because of the big long tail he’s a he lol.. He seems older. The top of his shell is pretty worn out.. but i guess you can never be too sure when you find a random tortise! But yeah.. i mean, it’s not even common to see a turtle crossing the road where i live.. ive never seen a turtle cross the road, atleast not in my town.. but a tortise!! wtf..??! I don’t have any social media, so when i went over to my parents, my mom took a picture to post on our towns FB page.. but if nobody claims it, i guess i’ve got a tortise! Been thinking about getting one for these last few years of watching you! So i guess it’s destiny! But also, idk.. do you want another tortise..? ha I’m sure this little guy wouldn’t mind retiring down to FL and live out his days in your tortise heaven! 😂 He is very active and very alert to when i approach him! Perks up and looks my way! So i feel the signs are there he was someone’s pet for awhile! He’s a tough guy! Hisses when i go to grab him 😂

Yea man I forgot you even had the Argus, this need extra attention. All monitors do. Put on some gloves and handle all of them a little more, black throats, inky, Argus, crocs. Don’t restrain them just let them do what they do while the gloves are on.

My argus is pure bluff, huffs and puffs, but is perfectly fine being picked up, hangs out on my head and shoulder, shes super awesome. Crazy food motivation, started using a bowl of food instead of tongs cuz they’ll jump like 6 feet in a blink of an eye, deffinatly keeps u on ur toes

Should be fine in new enclosure I think it's the door placement might feel trapped or threatened coming in from the side if the door was on the wider side he might act differently when you enter

Argus are slow to bite and full of hot air. Huff huff. But when they do bite its bad. It takes along time to tame these guys down and you gotta spend alot of time with them but kenan knows that. 2 yrs getting to know an animal is nothing when they live as long as some reptiles do.

I think Artie might like it better if he had a larger enclosure. That current enclosure feels claustrophobic to me. I know it also has "shielding" to block his view of things (to make the animal feel more secure?) but it feels TOO enclosed to me. and I'm just looking at the video frozen 4 seconds in right now! I remember seeing THE DIFFERENCE in Slinky when he moved from his old enclosure to his new one. He looked more lively and healthier after the move. That's my humble opinion. I wonder if the Argus movie might experience a similar change, too. Of course, Artie could just be a dick and really has it in for Kenan! My family has had cats that HATED my guts and I tried to be friendly with everyone! There are some animals (just like people!) who won't have it that will never be friends with you.

You must be new to the channel or a fan who hasn't kept up in a months Lobo was rehomed after he attacked one the kids, Growled at kenan also and kenan was trying to get him(paid by a hired professional to do this cause kenan didn't have a lot of time he's a very tight schedule) trained as guardian dog for the property after the massacre of the exotic animals with the raccoons and thief of his two beloved animals(one of them died cause of being taken and away and left to die,that was his first black throat ,the one with the limp tail,and spine that was kinda not healing right) The black dragon Inky was found and returned..
