I’ve only seen a few videos with Ron, but I always love them. And I respect his willingness to talk about making a mistake with overstimulating one of these guys while also not paying attention to him, how dangerous it was (getting bit in the face by a monitor is just…), and clearly having learned and adjusted his behavior

Saw a lace monitor about 2 feet away from me during my trip to Fraser Island last year. Didn't even know there was a 4 foot monitor next to us till we heard the branches and leaves rustle on the floor. The next day a lace monitor came into the camp around breakfast time expecting food. Was in hands distance just looking for scraps, the camp workers say the monitors come to the restaurant area every day because they know they will find food.

It's great to see everybody's setups. I rehab wildlife (mammals and sometimes birds) and many of the enclosures you've shown would be great for what I do here in Los Angeles, with small modifications, of course. Being able to remove panels and redesign on the spot is brilliant.

The Australian water monitor (Marty). My mate has one here in Australia and got videos of them sleeping in the water with its head poking out. Was a full fish tank setup with floating platform with basking lights. Still got proper sunlight. Absolutely loves the fish tank with feeder fish in their. Awesome to see it swim and catch the fish underwater for food

I have a normal phase lace monitor that walks up from the bush on our property and walks around our verandah. We also have beardies and wallabies, kookaburras etc all in our back yard on our property. We also hand feed wild kookaburras with worms from our vegetable garden. We are very lucky 💚

Kenan, you should really buy a lace monitor because every time you see it you become very happy. You are like a child who looks at a lego set even though he knows he can't get it but always goes to the toy store to look at it again. I also think it would be very nice for us to see this beautiful animal and learn more about this animal. sorry for bad english

@Kamp Kenan We met and chatted when you were in Sydney (David K). The next time you come to Australia I'll take you to a couple of reliable lace monitor spots. I occasionally get them in my back yard but I have a couple of spots not far from here where you can predictably find them any warm summer day. I also have a couple of heath monitor (Varanus rosenbergi) spots not too far away, but they're not as predictably easy to find.

I admit the ones you could just walk up and pet are pretty cool. Black throats and their cousins with the same big head bumps are a somewhat calmer monitor.. But generally speaking I would never encourage people to get any monitor lizard. Too many monitors abandoned. They are totally unpredictable, expensive as hell to feed and house and keep healthy, and tend to be mean, and messy, Which is 100% of the reason people give up and abandon them or raise them improperly in not proper enclosures. (I'd be grumpy too if you shoved me in a tiny hot box when I am used to running and exploring many MANY miles per day. Even the calm big heads love to explore and have miles range in the wild!)

My husband is Australian, in all of our trips back to see family, I have ONLY ever saw anole lizards ( as far as reptiles go) in the wild! Such a let down! I told him I want a return on my Aussie hubby since this one takes me to all the wrong places apparently ( I was just kidding) but I did see a lot of their spiders and insects ...gross!! I married him for the reptiles and get exoskeletol sightings only!! Okay yes, I saw kangaroos, rabbits and lots of birds too.
