Thank god. Was SOOOOO worried when I saw how many tornadoes touched down last night. We do hurricanes. We do not do tornadoes!!! I live in Savannah ga so very used to hurricanes. But not tornadoes!!! And never ever ever seen that many from one storm. I wanna know why there was so many with this storm. There have been stronger storms to make landfall higher than cat 3 and never spun that many tornadoes or even one tornado. That don’t sit right in my gut!!!

it makes me sad that i found you through Hurricane affected animal shelters, but i’m so happy i ended up here. 1) i’m glad you’re safe and weathered the storm with the best possible outcome you could have had and 2) your channel means so much to me because you are not an AZA zoo, but you are also not just another person in florida keeping exotics as “pets” just because you can. you clearly and obviously care so much for each animal you have, go above and beyond for their enclosures, and most importantly you EDUCATE YOURSELF on every detail of every animal. transferring your knowledge of conservation and education. (did that make sense??? lol) thank you for rescuing, saving, and advocating for these guys instead of having them all as pets because that’s “cool”

Mr K - you definitely need to look at adding a generator that's powerful enough to take care of your house as well as those items that absolutely have to have continuous power (incubators maybe??). You'd be surprised at how much it lowers your anxiety threshold!!!
@christopherjohnson53203 ай бұрын
I wanna say I mentioned awhile back the same thing I'm from and live in Wisconsin so we deal with all sorts of power outrages atleast half a dozen a year so a few years ago my parents and there neighbor decided to get standby GENERATORS from GENERAC there are awsome they run everyday at a set time for 5 minutes on run on NATURAL GAS and tap right into your breaker box so within maybe 10 seconds of power being out ilthe GENERATOR turns on and my parents place is 2 acres with a t bedroom house and a 40x48 ft garage and another 2 car and the GENERATOR has no issues running every thing you need to on a daily basis qnd longest its stayed on run the property was 34 hours

Kenan, use that excavator to build a dry river bed from the flood zone into Fred's Lagoon or into the big pond. You just dig a channel slanting towards the pond, line it with perforated pipe and fill it in with good sized river rocks.

Living in Colorado for 40+ years, I can totally understand your "distrust" of meteorologists. Thanfully, Milton weakened before hitting. Having friends living between Tampa and Orlando, I was keeping an eye on the storm.
@theoneandonly11583 ай бұрын
It was predicted to weaken. It didn't just happen. There's wind shear up above. That's the only reason it did.
@Error_404_Account_Deleted3 ай бұрын
Are you not aware that the mountains add an extra dynamic element to the weather? It’s not as easy as you wish.
@heyher_the_odd3 ай бұрын
@Error_404_Account_Deleted No, no, no.... wind shear is the only mitigating factor. The other commentor had it right. Topography, water temperature, and other factors play no part. *Note heavy sarcasm*

fellow native here, and amen to “wait a few hours” for a good gauge of colorado weather. at least coastal states with oceanic storms are able to get any type of warning over none at all and for that, i am thankful for them.

Look into French drains. A graded trench from the wet areas to Fred’s lagoon, filled 1/2 full of river cobbles, capped with flat slates or tiles provide a drain for excess water. You can then put soil and turf over that for a walking surface that will still allow drainage. Avoid clay as that allows no drainage at all.

Hope you're OK & all your animals cope with this extreme weather. Watching you pump water to the alligator pond & in the same video talking about loss of electricity after the storm, I wondered if you had considered incorporating some irrigation channels into your landscaping designs. Another pond may not be feasible, but whilst you have the mini-digger you could channel the excess water into either of your existing ponds using this old school technique & no electrical assistance. Many cultures have utilised such strategies in the past to irrigate & move water about way before electricity was conceived. This technology might also allow you to have a flow of water through smaller ponds in order to alleviate the quality deteriorating without pumps or other devices. Sliuce gates can be opened & closed to stem the flow as required & when necessary. I am not a historian nor am I qualified in water mechanics of this style, but I do believe that ancient civilisations had a better understanding of how to deal with such natural occurences in a more utilitarian fashion. You're obviously doing some major renovations to your environment & for the benefit of your animals, so making the investment in a system now during the planning phase might bring you more peace of mind when the next storm blows through your neighbourhood. 🙏 🌧🌪🌧
