Yes and we can see that everyone starts at "Level Zero" like they say in "Kung Fu Panda". So when I get discouraged about something I try to remember that and just level up with my skills...to not be afraid to try something new even if it's not as good as what someone else can do. Skills improve with practice. I've been sewing for about 27 years but just started quilting 1.5 years ago. So I just tried "free-motion" quilting my latest quilt (sewing the squiggles on the top w the machine). They were kind of wonky but it's ok! The next one will be better! I'd MUCH rather see someone in a cosplay they made themselves that was not great than wearing something spiffy-looking that they bought online. So keep trying, ya'll!

My first cosplay I don't think went too badly (although I have redone some bits) but my second one! I'm very happy there are no pictures of that as for some reason I decided to go as the Witchking and make all his armour out of single use baking trays as I didn't know EVA foam was a thing. It was not padded, was only half finished because I ran out of time , it was covered in superglue drips and I ended up having to rip the veil out of the helm because I didn't consider how well I was going to be able to breath while wearing it. But I survived! And I no longer make everything out of baking trays

Nice dress not that anyone would notice it said something about buying books. But then even your old costumes showed signs of even better things to come. I have seen a lot of costumes that aren't always that great but the person wearing it made it great by showing their confidence in the way they wore it thats half the battle right there. As usual you give a great presentation and help to encourage people just starting out and even some who have been at it for several years. Headed to anime north in Toronto next weekend and will see a lot of new costumes then and probably buy some more of those books that you write. Only 1 or 2 dealers seem to carry them. Oh well keep on cos-playing till later.

Yeah one thing people don't think about when they use fur for the characters like your Moogle is that inside Mascot suits and Fursuits they can get up to 100°F. So they need a lot of ventilation or Heat gear and a cold vest to actually wear those types of outfits.

My biggest problem with motivation is the fact that I always feel really uncomfortable at the convention. I love working on cosplays, figuring out how to make certain things, coming up with new ideas... And I get so excited when it's all coming together! But as soon as I'm wearing the costume at a convention, where everyone can see me, I feel terrible about it and can't enjoy the experience at all. I've only done three quick cosplays so far and my skills are definitely improving so I'd love to do more. But I always lose my motivation, because I don't see the point in making a cosplay when I'll feel bad when wearing it anyways...
@KamuiCosplay5 жыл бұрын
Oh, you are not the only one, believe me! I also love crafting costumes, but don't really enjoy wearing them. So I mostly focus on doing really huge projects, but wear them only ones or twice to get pretty photos during proper photoshoots. While I still wear comfy costumes at cons I'm invited to, I actually am pretty casual I at cons I visit for fun. I just enjoy much more being comfy, explore the con and hang out with friends instead of getting photos, making sure my costume is fine or thinking about how to visit a restroom. Just do what you like most and don't worry about what others think about you! At the end of the day it's your hobby and all that matters is that you are having fun! :)
@zeraphynx66295 жыл бұрын
@@KamuiCosplay Thank you so much! That means a lot to me :) I think I'll just focus on the crafting and not so much on wearing the cosplay for a convention. You're right, having fun is the most important thing about cosplay!

I had three days, low budget, and a dream to get TBC for free in a costume contest. Two $1 plastic table clothes, one $5.99 mask (just a simple full face plastic mask, no details), newspaper, and green construction paper. I cut out a few hundred green leaves from paper. The newspaper was used to make paper mache tauren mask (including horns and antlers) and tauren hooves over masking tape shaped onto my platform shoes. I made the robe out of the table cloths, which were cheap while plastic and painted the ever loving hell out of them. All the biggest details I could remember from the T1 set. Leaves pasted onto the shoulders. My living room looked like a warzone until it was complete, things drying everywhere. Got first place, a free expansion, and the paint chipped off the table clothes as I rattled home. XD I wish I'd had the stuff to make it out of real cloth n stuff like you did though. I bet it would have lasted longer and been more comfy!

Thank you so much for this. I think in 'any' craft it's hard to imagine (for an outsider) after years of 'experience' (failure or learning experiences) that someone so talented today had a starting point. To be excellent, you first have to be good. To be good, you first have to be ok. To be ok, you have be bad. To be bad, you have to make the decision to at least try. Make the decision today to try and give yourself enough time to work through the bad without being discouraged. I think too many people put an unrealistic timeframe on building something or the outcome. If you think it's going to turn out 'perfect' the first time and it does. Boy are you in for a rude awakening on your next project :)
