As you can probably tell by my profile pic, I feel like Haru is an insanely relatable character to me (and no, i don't mean her sex life). I'm a woman of small, weak posturein a country where rape is normalized and people generally view women as inferior. It's "traditional" way of thinking here. It's not hard to be seen as an object, or, on the contrary as something to feel sorry for. This is why I see so much of myself in Haru. Her struggles resemble the ones I face every day. I always need to look out for danger. There's no way I'm going out alone at night. There always needs to be a strong man to protect me. I squeeze my hand over a pair of keys each time someone passes me because I know that they could kidnap, murder or rape me right on the spot if they chose to. It's sickening, but it can't be helped. Haru's character provides me comfort on that. Beastars in general made me feel less lonely in my struggles and I can't thank Paru Itagaki enough for that. Great vid Patrick, keep up the good work mate!

What makes Beastars special to me, is, one, I made a bunch of really great friends because of it, and two, I think how Paru explores these anthropomorphic animals reflects in humans too. Everyone carries their own natural instincts with them, and those instincts can cause trouble if not handle correctly. Instead of letting your instincts run you, you should control your own instincts to your advantage

Character work in Beastars is what attracted me to it in the first place. I’ll be honest at first I was incredibly skeptical when I first heard of it. But I’m glad I decided to sit down one night and watch an episode from season 1 which eventually got me to watch the rest of the show and then the manga.

Beastars has been the only series where I’ve ever felt connected to more then one character. Other series just..don’t give me that. Yet in Beastars I feel I can relate to so many of them. They aren’t stereotypical characters who share everything about themselves or have a grounded personality and view point. While yeah they have a starting point but then it leaves the readers/viewers to fill the rest in. They feel more human which to me makes me connect with them more. And I love it for that.

The fact that Patrick says this is a quick video before his big Ibuki video when this video is him revisiting an old classic has me pumped for the next one. Great vid as always. It was super fun to do Louis, I always found it hard to relate to the guy until the end of season/arc 1. Louis is a guy trying to push his own insecurities on the world in my mind. Sure he acknowledges they exist but he doesn’t care. For example take the point where Louis confronts Legosi. Louis knows he’s not strong physically, but he chastises Legosi for not utilizing something he doesn’t have (also note how Louis is the stronger one in the scene as he’s overpowering Legosi). Good stories are ones that make you think, great stories are ones that make you create.
@KamuiMiracle3 жыл бұрын
You have such a strong point there. Louis really does push his own securities on the world and that can be reflected perfectly within the “Bite me” scene. Also, seriously thank you so much for voicing Louis in this. You are such a great VA and I am so excited to work with you more in the future.

I just saw the cover from the first volume and bc I love when stories have animals as characters I decided to give it a read, I wasn't expecting much but I was still intrigued and I LOVED IT. I really love how Beastars explores all kinds of relationships, in a comical or serious way. I heavily identify and sympathize with Riz because of his homosexual feelings for someone who is very different from him, but also understands and comforts him. But also having to bottle that uneasy feeling of actually being able to further that relationship beyond the surface level. Being pressured to "be your true self" before it's too late and missing the shot. Having to battle against all odds that society sets, only to fail despite having hope it would work out. It's soul crushing and it really puts a heavy burden on oneself. I'm so glad Riz gets the comfort he needs in the end with the help of Pina, someone who is similar to Tem.
@Ash-jk5ne3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kamui. Been a while. A fascinating perspective. Very well put. Although I really wish you had gone for one of the more subtle characters. I suppose it makes sense though. Louis is the clearest example to demonstrate the complexity of Paru’s characterization. While I agree with your character analysis of Yahya, I think that reducing him to an obsessed heartbroken man is a bit….oversimplified. Although you were definitely onto something when you mentioned the lack of positive influences creating cynicism. In my opinion, Gosha means a lot to Yahya. Not as a person, but as an ideal and this is where the relationship falls apart. He has a deep rooted respect and admiration for Gosha’s character but doesn’t respect his agency. In Yahya I see the relentless pursuit of success and happiness in someone with no idea how to achieve it. Someone who yearns to be part of something more intimate/fulfilling. For someone who will be there for you through it all. Yet somehow he always finds himself alone. Devoting himself to the task of being the Beastar is a distraction from an otherwise unfulfilling life. Gosha (and by extension carnivores) act as a trigger for his abandonment issues. Being forced to re-experience that pain even when he re-examines the life he settled for. Carrying on the mission instead of pursuing the path of “selfishness”.
@KamuiMiracle3 жыл бұрын
Wow you have really great points! I completely agree with you on them! I kind of ended up oversimplifying to not make the spoiler section too long. In my Yafya Video, I go so much more in-depth with Yafya and I go really deep into every side of his character. But yeah thank you for your input. Not enough people discuss Yafya’s character and it always is nice when i see people trying to analyze his character!

I've been searching for any posts or videos about it but this is the first time I've heard someone comment on Yafya's sexuality. I was surprised since it seemed so clear to me that he perhaps had stronger feelings than friendship for Gosha and from this developed a sort of internalised homophobia projected through hatred of non-traditional interspecies couples and denial of ever feeling love. He brings up homosexuality for no reason in the club with Legoshi. I'll have to read the manga again but super great video!

I Can relate to Haru a lot! & other introverted/loner girls like myself . Being known for being promiscuous ( not anymore because I’m learning to respect myself) & too having a bad reputation & being bullied by other girls by their own boyfriends actions. From not having no sense of self worth. & nobody in my small town wanted to hang with me because of my promiscuity …And/Of feeling like the only way you can be seen as a individual is through your sex addictions .. Yet she’s still a beautiful character despite her actions she Strong.. proud to see a little bit of her growth when she turned down an “date” during the ending of season 2 . I feel like I could see myself in her during S2 because I found a good man that is my childhood friend that seen all my mistakes, He sees me as a person & doesn’t judge my past actions. my husband was shy & timid like legoshi & also grown to be more stronger like legoshi . Neverless like myself & other girls learning to have more boundaries & to love myself. Also Wanted to see more but I still love how they leaned more over to solving the mystery as well. I remember watching this last year during the pandemic 2020, dealing with depression/anxiety this show gave me relatable comfort in legoshi & haru and others . It hits spiritually, mentally & emotionally 🤍 Also this mans is the truth thankyou for breaking this down 🤍 #beastarsfan

Yeah, I agree. Good points about the (almost) entire Beastars of cast.
