I had a bit of a slowdown in my progress through the summer, but here you go; the installation of my camshaft! Hoping I didn't nick the bearings too bad!

Good job for a novice. I hope someone has educated you about wiping component’s down with a rag or towel. Lint free is important, I try not the wipe down anything, I hose parts down with brake clean then add the lube, also you really need some good moly grease/cam break in lube.

Thanks for your comment. I have heard occasionally about WD40, that it is not the best. I definitely learned lots on this build!

Working on my 300 too. I am at the same stage as you. That Cam gear is a pain to install I might just take mine cam out an have it pressed on too.

Honestly probably worth it. Would take them only 15 minutes max I think, and you know it’s done right…. Gotta pick your battles :)

Thanks very much for the kind words! It's take me a while to learn the patience to do it 'right' and not 'fast'.

hi there , you may have been " told " , you'll get less distortion ( of the block ) ,during c'shaft installation . Should use a solid / sturdy bench , instead of an engine stand , as cast iron " inline blocks " ( six & eight cyl . ) DON'T LIKE to supported on one end . Use a solid bench , less distortion ( please ) . The same goes for ( cyl HEAD ) ALSO ( again please ) ! Best wishes Charlie Schultz , Sydney Australia .

I hadn’t heard that, but I can see your point. Thanks for the tip!

Hey Jeremy, I'm currently doing a full teardown of my '79 stepside (just took the cab off last night). My plan is to rebuild my 300 over the winter so your content is very timely for me! Can you let me know everything the machine shop ended up doing for you? Got a pretty good idea from the videos but I feel there may be more that they did but you didn't talk about. And why did you change the cam? Good job on the videos! Genuine videos and content, thanks!

Thanks very much for the comment! I’d be happy to let you know the full list of what they did; I’m just about to go away for the weekend though. I’ll respond early next week with the full list.

How the rebuild go? I'm about to rebuild my 300 this summer. We are moving to Brazil and taking my 300-6 powered Bronco with us.

Your bronco sounds like a fun vehicle. The rebuild went quite well, though I wish I put a new radiator in when I did it. Mine is kind of clogged and doesn’t cool enough while towing.

@@JeremyKamutzki Also make sure that you have a proper fan shroud. It's very important with these motors. I am also replacing the factory Mazda 5-speed with a ZF-5 and upgrading to a Detroit Locker from the factory Tru-Trac. A Bronco with a 300-6 is such a bad-ass combo. I had two of them and sold one to my friend who is a Chevy guy. He is not going back to a K-5 and he knows it. 🤣🤣

This is good stuff. No kidding.. even if it was 20 years since the last time you did this type of rebuild. It brings some great memories back, and you are doing it right.

I really wish all gas power cars and trucks had gears installed instead of chains and belts. Oh I hope they do this someday soon
@JeremyKamutzki
@JeremyKamutzki 11 ай бұрын
I suspect that part of the reason they don’t is due to noise. I believe it’s bulletproof, but noisier. Ford actually used a composite gear on some of the newer 4.9 l that was not reliable.
@natedog01able
@natedog01able 11 ай бұрын
I have heard about the noise but 99% of the time it's the motor reving up. If you take a new diesel truck for a ride anny diesel you won't hear the timing gears or injection pump gear

You aren’t supposed to put the 300 on a engine stand. It’s so long that it will actually sag
@JeremyKamutzki
@JeremyKamutzki 10 ай бұрын
This is the first I've heard of this, but may have slightly influenced my ability to get this camshaft back in. Are you suggesting that the block itself would bend due to its combined weight and length?
@Chapscruisers
@Chapscruisers 10 ай бұрын
@@JeremyKamutzki yes sir. It’s recommended to rebuild the 300 i6 on very sturdy table. It doesn’t bend much, but just enough to cause problems with bearing clearances and cam install
