While Kane may not sound traditionally country all the time, he does hit the mark every now and then with a banger. I’ve been a fan for years, and when I saw him In concert it just sold me even more. He was fantastic. I hope he continues with this country vibe.

It's funny, I am a huge Carrie fan, but I can't wrap my head around this album. I do like Crazy Angels and even Ghost Story. I feel GS was put out there to showcase her sky-high vocals. The other song I like is Velvet Heartbreak, but the rest is just meh. I feel like this album is a 2022 version of her prior album Play On, which didn't do much of anything except that they serve as potential segue-ways to if there's more new music on the horizon. As a diehard Carrie fan, I think your review was spot on. There are songs from this one that are bops, but I am craving an album that has the storytelling of Blown Away, Carnival Ride, and Storyteller. Even a metal/rock album would be epic, since she's a fan of both genres. The concept for Denim & Rhinestones is consistent and spot-on, but it still doesn't hit like many of her other albums have. I am also newly obsessed with Ingrid Andress and am excited to re-listen to her album!

I honestly enjoyed Denim & Rhinestones all the way through. Reminded me of some of the 80s country greats who flirted with the 80s synthy pop/new wave sound. “Poor Everybody Else” is an absolute banger. As for this format, I like the five albums/five minutes approach you have here. It feels like you give each album its due without it going on for a long time.

I really enjoyed Denim & Rhinestones after pretty heavily disliking Cry Pretty, but I agree with your picks for standouts. I like Carrie best when she's either got a great story happening or she's rocking out (no shame, Crazy Angels is by far my favorite track and I'll blast it in any company). I also really like the 80s synth style so that made it work better for me on the whole. Agreed on the slower stuff though, doesn't work as well for me but the cohesiveness of the album makes it something I come back to quite a bit, which frankly surprised me since I haven't super clicked with a Carrie album in a long time.

I’m the same way. I just wasn’t a huge fan of Cry Pretty,the album just didn’t click for me and after that,I was super leery of listening to D&R. Every song on the album is a bop and any song on the album would be a good single.I just love that she incorporated a lot of the influences from when she was growing up onto this album Like you,I LOVE the 80s synth vibes she has going here and I love that it sounds like it’s a throwback album but the production sounds modern and fresh. Definitely one of my favorite album of hers from top to bottom.Poor Everybody Else you can definitely tell she leaned hard into her love for 80s heavy rock and her love for rock music period.
@mr.worldwide47582 жыл бұрын
I feel like Carrie has really good album concepts, but not execution. And I really REALLY like Carrie. Personally, D&R is one of her best to date in terms of being an ALBUM (because everything sounds so cohesive and the genre changes she likes actually work this time around for this kind of lighthearted record, as opposed to the supposedly personal Cry Pretty or darker Blown Away), but the individual songs themselves are a little bit weak. Usually its the other way around with her, with her individual songs being strong but the albums themselves being weak.

Overall it’s a fun sing a long too album which is what she said she wanted too do. I’m hoping she’s gearing up for something epic in 2025 which would be 20 years since Idol!! In the end she’s vocally one of the best ever and can easily play for 2 hours and still not sing everything people want to hear and has become one of the best live performers around!

Faster is definitely the 80s slow jam, 80s slow skate, couples skate, slow jam song that she described it as. Very few songs make me cry and Faster was one of those songs that got me on the first listen.She could play easily for 2 hours and people still wouldn’t get to hear everything they like since she has so many hits. Random thoughts at certain points of the video (and listening to a few songs mentioned): - I'd probably like "Grand" better if Mike Posner had just kept it. - Went and listened to "Yearbook" and wow. What an excellent and well-written, if not also extremely depressing, song! - On one hand, I like 80s-esque pop and I like R&B, so I liked the snippet of "Faster." However, it's just okay to me. The chorus kinda just sits there and I've heard the sound done better by many artists in and adjacent to the synthwave and retro-pop scenes. - Zach Bryan continues to be an artist I respect more than I really like, but he does have some great songs. I appreciated the slight panning of him and Charles Wesley Godwin's voices in the mix of "Jamie" to mimic a live performance.

I do enjoy the tone and atmosphere Ingrid Andress is going for with her music and the hypnotic, vaguely Portishead or Mazzy Star-inspired vibe she's going for DOES make for a satisfying headphones-listening experience, or great music to hear at a teahouse or something of that sort. That said: in the context of country, I think she's going to fade from the country charts fast unless she mixes it up a bit. She can convincingly transition to being an Adult Alternative radio artist if she really wants to because her sound fits that format better in my opinion, and fully flesh her artistic persona out as the next Feist or something.

Grady, you've made me want to check out the new kane album lol. Sad you didn't cover "songs about you" by Brett eldredge or "Mr sun" by little big town but I understand you can't cover everything! Be blessed Grady! Love the videos man!!

I've waited soooo long for your take on Carrie's album. I think Carrie is doing what her last label didn't let her do in the past, and that's fine. She finally made a christmas album, a gospel album and now is doing something more loose, fun, inspired on a side she always grew up with it. But it kills me that she doesn't realize that those choices are kinda killing her momentum with the younger generation and making it difficult for her to continue the great success she always had. I guess she doesn't care about this things anymore, but it saddens me.

What you don’t get is that she’s doing what SHE wants to do,not cater to a demographic that will never give her the time of day.Carrie is in a land vocally than a lot of other female country and pop singers.She doesn’t care about chart success or catering to the younger demographic of generation and I’m fine with that regardless if it kills her momentum or not.

The more I listen to “ Things That Haven’t Happened Yet” by Ingrid Andress, the more the vocals and production on it remind me of “Ocean Eyes” by Billie Eilish.

Hi ! An Absolute DIE HARD CARRIE UNDERWOOD fan here and I think the review of the album from your perspective is fair because it’s your opinion and the opinions of others as well. However, I think if you’d listened to any of the interviews she did surrounding the release of it you and everyone else would have understood why it seemed “EVERYWHERE ( all over the place ) yet, Cohesive. And y’all would’ve known that this was her chance to make an album of influence . Meaning she wanted to make an 80’s pop , rock album infused with country (her genres she personally loved from growing up to now ) and I think she succeeded in that . I also think for people saying “well it wasn’t number #1 like it always is that shows she’s slowing down” to have your last 3 full albums ( whether they were country , gospel , or Christmas ) be number #1 and most people LOVE THEM isn’t something light. And not many artist can say and the last two were like back to back releases. So she wanted to do something fun and she succeeded. I think the one thing that Carrie does that not many people can do is that she DELIVERS. From studio to stage she brings it EVERY. SINGLE . TIME. Those are my two cents on the situation lol ! Also, I love your channel been here for two years 🎉 amazing work dude ! Keep it up !

totally agree with carrie's album. it seems a little all over the place in my opinion. Cry pretty seemed so huge and I had a hard time imagining how she could top that. I don't think D & R is as great as it could have been. I thought that Kane singing a song with his wife was just an easy I'm married to an Instagram star money maker. I think she has a good voice. But I'm so tired of his theologically incorrect songs lol

I just wasn’t a huge fan of Cry Pretty. That album just didn’t feel like it was “her” and I don’t know if I remember that album being huge. I’m going to be a little harsh here so I apologize. Denim and Rhinestones was meant to be all over the place,that was kind of her goal with the album was to showcase all of the influences from the music she grew up listening to so I don’t know what people are expecting from her at this point.I don’t get how D&R could’ve been more great as an album.I’m just curious on why Carrie’s album isn’t hitting as hard for some people that it did for others.

Hot take: When you think about it Wallen and Kane actually have very similar styles when you actually think about it. Listen to Flower Shops, Whiskey Sour, You Proof, What Ifs, Up Down, and One Mississippi back to back and tell me that they don't sound similar, but no one is brave enough to acknowledge it
@LTProductions3352 жыл бұрын
Similar for sure. But the voices and how they are used really separates the 2.

As much as I like the sound and flirty mood of D&R, I'm interested in hearing about Carrie's take on motherhood in her music. (She might have cut songs about it in the past -- I haven't listened to her recent albums until D&R)

I think whiskey sour would be a top hit if it was sang by someone else. I enjoy the song but Kane is so wishy washy with if he wants to be country or pop. If he dedicated to country I think he would be a solid listen but the one extreme to the other he does is hard to listen to
