Our first discussion about one of Nigeria's own empires. Dr Catel discusses the origin of the Kanem Borno Empire and how it spread and covered what is now modern day Borno in Today's Nigeria.
BNH is going to be like a crash course (or an edutainment series) on Nigerian history, but along the way will also touch on other parts of West African history.

There should be more channels like this. In an era in which our eagerness for war-gaming is rampant, it's a shame to have African Empires represented so poorly.

Yeah... Imagine a Total War Songhay Empire or Mali Empire. But we can't wait for the White man to represent our culture. It's our prerogative and ours alone.

Could the 15 renegade Europeans be considered slaves? I think there where more European slaves in Africa than we know about.

Amazing video, but would you mind changing the name of the series from "Basic Nigerian History" to Basic African History? No offense but i find quite arrogant that you would list all of these empires as Nigerian, again no offense. Cheers

He doesn't list any of the empires as Nigerian. He's saying all of the empires had territories in what is now considered Nigeria. Thats why its the "Basic Nigerian History" channel.

Good job but we really don't have strong evidence for Dunama destroying a traditionalist cult (mune). Local Borno sources from later centuries actually suggest the mune was linked to Islam
