Hey everyone and welcome to Scrap Mechanic Survival! Today we are starting up an automatic farming system so we can plant, water and harvest plants without having to do anything! Hopefully this allows us to start getting plants and work on trading for better items!

@ScibleMonk I don't think it would waste seeds because it cant plant them if a plot is already being used, and the water is automatically collected always, so even if the water is being wasted, you get the same amount of water that is wasted. And even if you use more water than you get, just add another pump.

You can also use a sensor to detect when a plant is fully grown! Place a sensor pointing toward one of the final plants (or a few with an and gate) then hook that back up to the trigger or gate and you have fully automated it 😃

@Yull-Rete
@Yull-Rete 4 жыл бұрын
You could actually put the sensor on one of the first plants. That way you'd be harvesting them as the ones later in the row are still ripening. But since the machine runs at the same speed each time, they would always be fully grown by the time the harvester gets to them. (Assuming of course the sensors can detect grown vs ungrown plants.)

finally caved and built this thing and well, you changed something off camera(prolly when you added the invisible yellow and gate for the length pistons) and it doesnt seem to work. please let me know what you used to cause the timers to stop cycling. everything else works perfectly except you cant turn the thing off. when you do, the timers just keep going as they were except they now have a second beep going in an endless loop. **Edit**fixed it, the triple xor that goes to the first timer loop, needs to not only go to the xor but to the and also. this will cease the loop because when the system turns off, no matter what the and does not receive a signal on both lines.

- Controller waiting issue: Each component controlled by a controller may have a different update time, may it be distance/rotation or just pistons/bearings. Thus each stages duration of a controller is defined by the slowest component. Having no change in one stage, the stage has no duration, its instant, thus skipped. - The whole farm could be hooked up to a timer of 24h or less. The plants will be grown by that time and the player only has to go there at any time of the day, to sort/fix the chests content. This also justifies any form of duration, 15mins of farm processing? No problem, each soil on the field has its own constant time cycle. The player doesn't need to care when each cycle happens, due to the timer. Nice idea! I didn't know that one could control pistons like this, its awesome! And the sensor to trigger when its over a field is also awesome.

Also, it can be a little faster, at 18 seconds per extention/contraction, that makes it only 3 minutes per harvest/planting. It works because the vacuum pump can suck up the grown plants in the next row as well.

So I was just going to comment that you could try to double the planters, but decided to keep watching first and ofcourse you thought of that. Although I was thinking about just doubling the planter and vacuum pump while still keeping on the one row at a time theme, but its probably more compact, efficiënt and less messy to just do 2 rows at a time. but doing one row at a time really fast would look really satisfying tho. great stuff as always.

I would have used limit switches for the back and forth instead of a timer, the added benefit is that you can lengthen your field with minimal effort. I'm so eager to have the modpack logic in survival, it'll make the circuit much simpler and much faster with smart engines ! Also an awesome over engineered solution to make this faster is to have a rotating planter head with multiple vacuum pumps so that they can cooldown. Also Also, if the vacuum pump has enough range to pick up the rows around, you could plant going both ways, simplifying again the circuits !

This is awesome hands down but if time is the concern then you should have your logic watering/planter/food taker set up on every row for it to take 30 seconds and if there is not much space then have it on every other row for it to take a minute. This brings so many great ideas thank you!
@raysen3607
@raysen3607 4 жыл бұрын
It's an amazing concept! You could make it twice as fast simply by rotating the setup of pump and vacuums by 90 degree: by making each step of the process work on their own line per time, you can then make the system active both on the going and returning pass. First Going pass: harvest column A First Returning pass: harvest column B and plant column A Second Going pass: harvest column C, plant column B and water column A etc. Yes, you still would need to add two extra passes over the left edge of the wall to finish watering everything but it still would be a lot faster than the current design.

you could fix the slow planting issue by doubling planters, and putting them angled in/one after the other and then you could pulse them at odd and even farm spot, which would double the plant speed, and then if you add that to the double sided version you talked about, that's 2 minutes to plant the whole thing

Here is a good idea for the wall when you get more resources. Make the wall stretch out to the water and under it, then make a door for a boat to pass through, but also make a door underwater tallow submarines to go through. Ill explain how the door for the boat will work below So it'll be similar to the front door, but there will be a switch inside the wall. What you will do is have a censor connected to the door to open it. When you want to get back in, you hold a button that extends a piston, activating the censor. Once the door is open, you can just float your way in.

my design is finally done! i stop following you video and did myself the most parts on it, the end result had the pistons strategy to pull or push cart equals with 2 pistons balancing the other making the entire stuff still in place, i screw up following you video when comes to toggle switch and i finally understand what you did, but i discover by myself nad in the end not use that... i make a flipping cart and put sensor in each edge of both rails... the low rail make the system skip a row, the second rail make the cart flip and goes to the next line, this way my machine never be in iddle backing to start of a line, i need wait some seconds because of the cart flipping stage, for that i make a timer with when flip the cart already swith the row... when it reach one of the edges of low rail it trigger a memory bit that shift the next step... this make my system go all lines until the last then back all lines until the first and keep going... i just put 100 seeds on it and let it on... i need work how to only plant when it harvest something, but i not figure that out... and actually i like this to not be on all the time, because raids keeps getting harder if it is on all nights with crops
@35manning
@35manning 4 жыл бұрын
Have I got some ideas for you... 1) Do the sensors detect the crops? If so, use that to advance the gantry along the row using the same wobble method. No timer needed 2) Use memory bits to break up the actions. Step 1, vacuum the crops, step 2, plant them, step 3 water them. this may take "longer", but if you use the wobble method, you can vacuum and water quickly and plant in both directions. If sensors do take crops, then this can be left running. It will auto vacuum crops, only seed empty plots and water everything. Then you only need to worry about your new bot joining forces with the existing farm bots and attacking you when you least suspect it...

PLEASE READ IF YOUR BUILDING YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have a problem where you pistons that push the whole cart thingy, get glitched out because of the timer just repeating itself. what you do is you hook up an extra OR gate to the AND gate that connects to the piston timer. then connect the memory bit (that's full of XOR gates) to the OR gate you just placed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This works because: An AND gate needs all inputs to be active at the same time for it to light up, when the XOR gate connected to the AND gate lights up when the OR gate is not (when the whole system is off) it will not activate the pistons!

When you were doing the shutoff test at the end it looked like nozzles were not lined up with the end row, therefore i suggest using another sensor-tooth system instead of timers. Also since the contraption 'knows' where each row is you don't really need that 30 second timer. Use the sensor for the planter (since it is the slowest one) to trigger a circuit that advances the gantry until that sensor is triggered, then pauses for the seed to be planted, then advances to the next row. While that setup will most likely be a bit more complicated than a timer the main advantage of it will be the fact that the gantry will come back to 0 at full speed.

Another solution to this problem is to hook up the timer circuit like this: The the output from the memory bit and hook it to a NOR-gate. Take the output from the NOR-gate and hook it to another NOR-gate (this is instead of Kan's XOR-gate). Take the output from the second NOR-gate and hook it to an OR-gate (same as Kan's). The second planter isn't really necessary, because if you start harvesting once your first plant is ready the throughput is the grow time and not the harvesting time (assuming your harvesting time is less than the grow time). This also makes it more interesting with a large enough farm because it will be continuously planting, growing, and harvesting.
