The force is strong in this one, learning the ways of the pranger he is. As someone else has already said, load the shaft back into the gun and fish are super easy to kick off the spear. Just remember to dispatch it properly or string it before kicking it off the spear. Also if you're allowed, swim on tip of your float like a body board. A mate of mine here calculates a 2km swim like this to take 45 minutes.
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Hahaha yep I’ve started doing that now and it’s a lot easier 😁 Did you ever used a pranger? Unfortunately it was against the comp rules to use your float as a body board 😓
@DanielMann3 жыл бұрын
@@EthanYeo1 I used a pranger for years. Shot all sorts of things with it. Grassy emperors, coral trout, big cod etc.
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Nice nice! What made you stop using it now?
@DanielMann3 жыл бұрын
@@EthanYeo1 cost was a big one and also taking longer shots on thicker set fish like job fish. I have always used them in competitions in Sydney and the Central Coast in the late 2000's. Fantastic for flathead and I'll love to throw one at a halibut one day.
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Ahh fair enough! Yesss I would love to see you hunt halibut with a big heavy pranger, but just make sure Joose doesn’t use it this time 😉

Heeeesssss back! Cracking Video Ethan, aka the rule breaker! The day before the comp you broke all the asterix rules to get it out of your system right? Harlequin fish, Nani, what a feed! Are the Western Blue grouper protected over there out of interest? Well done on Day 1 of the comp, remember you can get out of the water and walk back - can sometimes be way quicker. FWIW, With a pranger, I have always aimed to hit the fish just behind to the pectoral fin and up to the dorsal fin. Usually stones the fish and avoids gut shots and head shots. Loved the video, loved the laughs! Cheers for sharing the fun, Dive safe!
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave!! Haha well honestly I only just found out what the asterisks next to the fish meant after I was uploaded this video, as I shot 2 boarfish during the comp when apparently you’re only allowed to take one 😬 With blue grouper they’re protected in most areas, however you’re allowed to take them on the south side of Kangaroo Island (we were diving the north) and also from Port Lincoln all the way to the border of WA I think, but you’re only allowed to shoot them between 60-100cm. Unfortunately the spot where we were diving was right along the cliffs so I couldn’t have walked 😅 Alright I’ll try that next time cause normally I just aim for the head 👍

Great video, getting back into my spearfishing after a few years on the pine. Your videos have made me want to get back in the water. Just wondering what weight belt system you are using, have been lookig at a full harness but thinking it might be a little excessive. Cheers
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome Rowan, that’s so great to hear!! In this video I was just using a weight belt but have recently started diving with a harness, as I find it really helps me take some of the weight off my lower back 👍
@rowangill52493 жыл бұрын
@@EthanYeo1 thanks mate. Yeh think it's going to be worth the investment. Will be purchasing a 5mm wetsuit soon, probably go with torelli. And think I'm going to need the extra weight with that. What thickness wetsuit are you diving with in the cooler months.
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
@@rowangill5249 Definitely, especially if you plan to dive often! Awesome, I really rate the torelli wetsuits, as they're heaps comfortable, correct the thicker the wetsuit the more weights you'd need. Majority of the year I use a 5mm, but in peak summer if it's a hot day I'll use a 3mm and in winter I wear my 5mm bottoms with a 7mm top 🙂

@EthanYeo12 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t say it’s essential but would recommend it!
@chrismithify2 жыл бұрын
Also, what do you do about the potential of sharks?
@EthanYeo12 жыл бұрын
I guess it’s a risk that us spearos take when we enter the water, however it is very unlikely to come across a bronzie and even rarer to encounter a white! I’ve probably done over 300 dives and only ever seen 1 bronzie and that was cause I was jumping in on a bait ball.
@mattsmith20512 жыл бұрын
Is it quite safe to dive on your own out kangaroo? Certainly seem like you didn’t see any unwanted characters
@EthanYeo12 жыл бұрын
It depends how comfortable you are in the water and how comfortable you are around sharks. Personally I wouldn’t but I know if guys that have dived solo there. Fair decent chance you’ll encounter bronzies but quite rare you’ll come across a white imo
