Loving this series Ethan, your videos get better and better. You learn so much diving competitions, I loved going to them in Australia when I could.

Ethan mate you looked sooo cooked LOL! That was a really cool video, great engagement. That last day you lads smashed it. Made the trip well worth while. Get your self a good set of calibrated lie detectors, I do it all the time, helps a lot judging the fish and the weight. Great Tip on the cray catching, I'll have to test that out next week. BTW, the Fox Fish is a slow growing fish and is quite old for its weight and size, I try not to target them. King wrasse over here have a weird taste for me, I only ever smoke them, but really don't both with them! Awesome Video, Cheers for sharing it! Dive Safe.
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Hahaha I sure was cooked Dave, 4 days of straight diving really did it for me 😅 Yeah that last spot we dove was absolutely insane!! If you ever get the chance to come to South Australia you have to check out kangaroo island 👍 Just bought a scale today actually haha. Yeah fox fish seem to be quite rare over here and I’ve only ever seen one, which I left alone. Not a fan of wrasse, I find it has a bit of a weedy taste and the texture is a mushy. Thanks for watching mate, stay safe too 😁

Great videos mate, do you need a license to catch Crays (diving only) in SA?
@EthanYeo12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! For diving you are not required a licence, whereas pots you need to register them 👍

Im thinking off getting one , there was 3metar wight shark yesterday at Corolla beach where I was spearfish by my self , I don't like the bit that hangs in water thinking that might tangel with the float line or something ,how do u fined it using one ? Cher's 👍

Whats a good resource for identifying fish if youre new to diving? Done some around hallet cove/marino area looking for crab and I'd be interested the know what the multitude of different fish I see are. Google searches with vague descriptions don't seem to help much 😅 Well done on the comp too. Always room to improve
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mate! In my opinion the best way is just to spend as much time as possible in the water and make yourself aware of the protected species in SA, you can find all the information on pirsa, thankfully there aren’t that many! Otherwise if you have a waterproof camera you can always take it with you and record the fish and then identify the fish after. A common method used by many is to shoot the fish first and then ask questions later, this isn’t ideal. However if you’re aware of the protected species I can’t see this being too big of an issue as most fish here in SA are legal to take. I hope that helps 😁

You did great. I’ve never entered a comp, but I can imagine that going down, then up, then down for hours on end would be taxing. I notice you use a pranger, is that a better method for the smaller fish?
@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын
Thanks Timothy! It is very exhausting diving 2 full days but I find I learn so much as well. Correct the pranger has a bigger surface area making it easier to hit smaller fish and is normally used for comps! 👍

@EthanYeo13 жыл бұрын

Great video! You have to make the long drive to Eden in June. It would have to be one of the best and well attended competitions in Oz. Its a good middle ground that a lot of southern and more northern divers can meet on with so many good species on offer. The good news is that its only 1 day so you don't feel like death afterwards. Would love to see you do a video of it.

Thanks mate! I would absolutely love to dive the Eden comp, do you know where I can find more info on it? :)

@@EthanYeo1 It's June 12. Southern Zone Spearfishing will have all the details (facebook.com/southernzonespearfishing). You've probably seen it but as a rockhopper myself, this video of the Eden comp always gets me going. For me and my four sons its worth driving south 8 hours to dive freezing water. I haven’t ever really pushed myself but I’d if I really needed to I could hold it for 2 minutes. But on average most of my dives are between 30-90 seconds.
