Today, another video, but this time I’m daring to explore a new band that managed to captivate me only this year: Kanonenfieber. A relatively small band that has stirred up quite some attention in the German-speaking world with their album Die Urkatastrophe this year. Their concept revolves around illustrating the suffering endured by soldiers on the front lines during World War I. There’s nothing glorifying or romanticizing about the First World War or the German Empire (e.g., the Pickelhaube helmet); it’s purely criticism and processing of trauma.
This approach works exceptionally well and is incredibly well thought out. It’s simply enjoyable to immerse oneself in the story.
Live, it’s very theatrical: Noise, the vocalist, interacts barely with the audience, instead being deeply immersed in his role. As a result, such a concert tends to pass by rather quickly. I’m excited to hear more from them in the coming year!
