There's a reason for all that rhymes It's a fact and the way of the times It's moving emotion, it's high and it's low No matter where you go There is something for all who look There's a story in every book All of the pages, between all the lines So much that you can find But there's too many empty lives my friend And we just can't let them waste away For this life is a precious thing my friend And we can't wait another day There's a message in every word And it's more than the word you heard It's moving emotion, it comes like the sea Washing all over me For there's nothing that we can't do my friend 'Cause the spirit is with us all And it's here and it's now, it's up and it's down You can feel it surrounding us all. After all we're the same Only difference is a name and where we are In this crazy mixed up deal There's so many things to feel Near and far it's where you are And there's times when I can't contain All the feelings of love I'll gain It's there for the asking It's for all of you if you would take it too But there's too many empty lives my friend And we just can't let them waste away For this life is a precious thing my friend And we can't wait another day

I listen to this and get chills!! Steve's voice was so amazing at this point. So pure and full of emotion. He has an uncanny ability to phrase the lyrics so well into the song. The harmonies and vocal doubling between Steve and Robby were among the best in the rock world! The lyrical content was so powerful and in today's world means so much. Too bad radio stations would never play something like this. The message means so much!

I saw Loverboy open for Kansas in Minneapolis 1980. Their name didn't ring a bell and I thought I never heard of them but they were kicking ass. Then the song turn me loose was played and I knew that one. I didn't know if Kansas could meet.their intensity. Then Kansas began and I knew in an instant that this was the greatest show I've seen, ever. I still have yet to see a better show and I've seen a lot of great bands. I've seen Kansas probably ten times, but that first show, all original members

@@scientificdevil4672 So true! There was no voice like Steve Walsh & he was a wizard on keys. Dave Hope once told me about the time Steve showed up & said he wanted to audition as lead singer. They were, of course, blown away. Then Steve told them he also played “a little keyboard “ too! 🙃

I hope deep in my heart that SW can still be proud of this one and more like it. Of course I don't know for sure of which songs he speak when he says they were written for the wrong reasons and we're schmaltzy or whatnot. But this song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and to hear them execute it with this much feeling is just heart squeezing. Hello LINNEA, I have been following all your music on Kansas and I always will ! You always have RARE old Kansas from the late 70's.....when Mr. Steve was at his very best. Steve has always been my favorite singer of all time. Ive seen Kansas LIVE in concert over 18 times. One night out in the Hamptons, Long Island....I guess it was around 1980....Steve tripped over some monitor wires and landed right in my arms in the first row !!! LoL... True story. Anyway, after the show, I got to meet Steve and the boys. They were all so nice to me. I couldnt believe I was meeting my favorite band and most importantly, my favorite vocalist.....It was a dream come true. MUCH LOVE ALWAYS TO THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF KANSAS. Thank you for all the amazing music throughout the years....God Bless Kansas and also..... Linnea.

From the mountains to the sun Life has only just begun We wed this land and pledged our souls to meet its end Life has only just begun Here my people roam the earth In the kingdom of our birth Where the dust of all our horses hides the sun We are mighty on the earth, on the earth You have come to move me, take me from my ancient home Land of my fathers, I can't leave you now We will share it with you, no man owns this earth we're on Now the wheels are rolling, hear the howling winds of war It's my destiny to fight and die But is there no solution? Can we find no other way? Lord let me stay Under the endless sky and the earth below Here I was born to live, and I will never go, oh no But we cannot endure like the earth and the mountains Life is not ours to keep, for a new sun is rising Soon these days shall pass away For our freedom we must pay All our words and deeds are carried on the wind In the ground our bodies lay Here we'll stay

I remember them from way back when they came into my dad's Lumber yard & hardware store in need of lumber to build their own stage. That's was so long ago and never missed a concert or buying their albums until the original members broke up. They weren't the same. Nobody sounded like they were in the same rhythm. Sorry to hear you are missing out on the new incarnation of the band. They sound better than they have in ages, and they are having fun, as is the audience. Yeah, Steve and many others are gone, but Steve's voice has been gone for years. They are still better than 99% of the groups out there playing. Maybe go see a show and see for yourself.

Most of this proggy stuff is self indulgent garbage....but at least kansas had nice melodic structure built over some nice passages in a few attempts...unlike most of what ELP and Yes did, which with few exceptions was crap!
