Jim Nantz said Derrick Rose’s bank shot with 2 minutes left was the shot of the tournament. Boy was he wrong

This was one of the best or the best Kansas basketball team in college basketball history.They had all the pieces to the puzzle,they had all the players and (Bill Self)coaches,most of all they have a rich basketball history.They just really don't lose in championship games and are are real down to the gritty clutch.Also check out the 2021-22 Kansas squad.They were a monster power house team through out that tournament.

I was in Memphis watching this game. I can tell you no one I came into contact with from Memphis thought they would lose this game. But when this game was over, it really hurt them. It wasn't just a game for them.

They had such a great starting 5. So much confidence...1 loss on the year I think? When KU beat UNC I knew we had a chance, but I knew exactly who Derrick Rose was. Big time guards always seem to win titles! But Sherron Collins off the bench and of course Chalmers made the difference. Sherron and Derrick both being giant Chicago talents was a big storyline. I was in Lawrence, at a bar for the whole game. With 2 minutes left...it felt like 2003 and Syracuse all over again! Then a steal, and a Collins 3...and some big breaks in free throw misses for Kansas, and suddenly we were in overtime. Before overtime started, I don't think any KU fan thought we were gonna lose. What a game. Truly one of the most exciting title games ever!

A lot of people blame Memphis for making mistakes and missing free-throws. Well none of those misses or mistakes would've made a difference if Kansas didn't take advantage of them. First Arthur had to hit a long jumper outside of his normal range, then Collins with that steal, then knocks down the three pointer, Chalmers had to step up and hit free-throws shooting one and ones in a pressure situation, Arthur has to hit a tough turnaround jumper with a defender right there, Chalmers then has to make that three and all that did was send it to OT and then Kansas had to execute in OT to win. If any of those things don't happen Kansas doesn't win this game.

Looking back even tho Memphis couldn't finish. This was by far thier toughest test. They couldn't pull away from them like they did all the rest. Make no mistake , the road kill memphis left on thier way to Sam Antonio was WICKED!!! The critics couldnt believe The tigers were that good even ad a #1. The jayhawks bared witness themselves. Also if you notice, those Kansas players were absolute studs, y .those gus were physically strong and kust ad athletic. The Tigers dodmt have strong enough games from enough people.. Kansas wad by far the best yeam they played

Memphis's Derrick Rose was the best version of a player in his college and NBA career.Honestly he was one the best basketball players I have ever seen the game.Too bad Kansas won and That Derrick Rose injury in the NBA really derailed his career.I wish he would of never got Injured.A healthy Derrick Rose would of been one of the best in history.

He really was transcendent. I am a Kansas fan and outside of this one game I always rooted for him. I felt bad for him about the free throws, but he did make the last one to make it a 3 point lead. Rose won the NBA MVP at 22, really one of the best guards I've ever seen despite his injuries. The fact that he could still start in the most competiive league in the world after all those injuries for so many years illustrates his greatness.

They should’ve fouled the person bringing the ball up
@stonecoldku4161

Yes, Rose should've fouled him. But also, there were three different scenarios in play for what they should do after the shots. Only one of them would be where they should foul and the other two you shouldn't. 1) Miss both free throws Memphis would only be up two points and if Kansas rebounded the ball they didn't want to foul because Kansas was in the bonus. They would've had a chance to tie the game on one and one free throws. 2) If Rose made both free throws Memphis would be up four points and you don't want to foul then because you extend the game for Kansas and give them a chance to score at the foul line with little time coming off the clock. 3) Then what happened. You miss one and make one and that's when you foul to not give KU a chance to tie. I can forgive Rose for getting confused on what he should do there. He is in a high-pressure situation, he's 18 years old and he was probably just thinking about his free throws while in the huddle while Calipari is talking to the team about what to do.
