Kant Philosophy: The Anatomy of Pure Reason

Күн бұрын

From reason and morality to metaphysics and aesthetics, the core of Immanuel Kant's philosophy was the fundamental idea of human autonomy - how to unshackle ourselves from our delusions and limitations, cultivate self-awareness and self-ownership and eventually allow humanity to move forward with less distress and less conflict.
It takes a lot of courage and audacity to even scratch the surface of such topics.
Kant not only scratched the surface, but he “eroded” it and went deeper than almost anyone.

Philosophers dedicate their lives to the search for meaning and, in the end, they experience relief after their journey finishes. They try hard. Facing harsh criticism. Occupying themselves with topics so dear to the human condition but also so challenging for the human cognition. It is a personal responsibility for all of us not only to respect their work, but also to try to understand them, even to some degree. Just for the sake of showing appreciation. Just for the sake of injecting a little bit more meaning to our lives.

One idea is that, as humans evolved from small hunter-gatherer tribes into large agrarian cultures, our ancestors needed to encourage cooperation and tolerance among relative strangers. Religion then-along with the belief in a moralizing God-was a cultural adaptation to these challenges.

If anyone reads the proverbs of Solomon , and understands them , than he must read again and again untill the essence is tasted. This will result an access to greater depth of knowledge, leading to strong evidence in why more philosophical books shouldn't be written. Failure to understand the futility of human wisdom is confirmed by the writing of many philosophical books...

We know from such works as Cooley-Mead-Dewey-Faris and from seeing the outcomes; the personality and/or the moral development of severely isolated children that rational will and moral development are not autonomous from a socially-based charge. Thus, a rational will must be grounded in a codified dogma that dictates ethical rules to its subject. Kant was therefore wrong when he said "morality leads to religion", rather, it's religion that leads us to morality. Kant's idealism is a beautiful thing, to believe that we should always do the right thing and to do it in alignment with an unadulterated natural law (which also doesn't exist when looking at the same theories as mentioned above) that we want to perpetuate and bolster, well, yeah, that's beautiful. And, so is maintaining freedom and free will. But, we should do these things knowing that the diversity of religions, the diversity of cultures, the diversity of moralities that exist within different religions, socities, and cultures are of foundational integrity and necessity if we are to live morally and ethically grounded lives. In short, religion is necessary.

Dude!!👊🤘👁✨✨🤔 I totally feel connected to these ideas etc , however one can express. Like Omfg! Like his spirit let's say is right with me. As I've kept working on myself these concepts whatever i totally feel. Even having southern Baptist ways down my throat all my life and like it just didn't sit well and this deep knowing inside kept me repelled. I totally get utopia and it can happen if we get outta our heads in thinking we need control or to attach ourselves to outcomes, people, shit really anything. To truly be oneself and get that let's the imagination is really another realm yet we are taught differently and all is a contradiction it's the intention behind the thought i think to best express which that can be contradictory to. It's fun. I never realized how serious i took things till my soul had enough and now yes I'll always grow in enlightenment cuz the journey and living but it can all be life nirvana. I imagine me in my own kingdom lots. So many expressions and ya look at others like lost jewels and to see or their shine and i believe we are all connected so if i hold my own positivity then it does lift things up. I can't control or have expectations on outcomes for each their own path but it's like ik it's gonna be ok. Idk so much. I change every moment. Totally gonna look him up. I feel like he's part of my soul to express and Bam here i am on your page hearing your perspective on him. Guided by the light!😁☺😉 and i wasn't distracted by your deep voice so much that i actually listened. Lol. Thank you for being you!!✌💜🌟

Hey i got a question, And this is my only social media outlet And you perspectives intrigue me. I am reading this morning and i turn to a page as i feel I'm guided to and i wondered if you know about the book of Enoch? And on page 107. I really would appreciate a perspective. *="by night she looks like a man for 20 days each time, and by day she appears like heaven, and there is nothing else in her save her light".* before it talks about moon phases and i get , yet I'm stumped on what referring as the 20 days. Unless it is like the moon phases except maybe like so many days when it transitions based on a certain period?

One small clarification-pure reason does not relate to morality or free will. Pure reason is simply reason’s relationship to itself and its own structures which Kant thinks originates from our ability to make synthetic a priori judgments. Kant takes as a given that synthetic a priori cognition is possible because we can cognizance truths of pure mathematics, or pure science of nature. Kant extends the use of synthetic a priori cognition to clarifying the structures of consciousness itself.. these structures of consciousness as well as the truths of pure mathematics and science, Kant thinks they are all rooted in our intuitive grasp of spatio-temporal forms through what he calls the ‘pure manifold’ of intuition

Great video! I also think Kant is an exemplary thinker. But I think his glorification is mistaken. Yes Kant was a good philosopher, he wrestled with questions and created concepts to overcome the big contradictions of his time. But out of his systemic thought, Kant also created scientific racism. Not because it was a product of his time or whatever, but because other races and cultures posed threats to the universal quality of his moral system. After all when you reduce all human moral behavior to one law then it becomes hard to show the universal nature of your moral theory. So his anthropological work tries to explain why not everyone is a european. Another example was his adamant rejection that chemistry could ever be a science, or that sperm was the source of evil in humanity. These examples not only show us that Kant was only a good thinker within a specific set of questions, but that we should also aspire to go beyond the Kantian Limits. Especially during an age of technology where the boundary between human and machine is becoming less and less relevant. His humanist and universal ethics and metaphysics can only take us so far. Rather than a role model we should see Kant as a step toward better thinking. (Also, he had his servant tuck him in bed so tightly that he couldn't touch himself at night ... Or so the story goes. Very weird dude)

Adrien: Όταν ο Ιμάνουελ Καντ λέει ότι A priori σημαίνει αυτό που απομένει όταν «απομακρύνουμε από την εμπειρία μας ότι ανήκει στις αισθήσεις,» αυτό δεν είναι παρόμοιο με *transcendental meditation* όπου αφαιρείται όλο το περιεχόμενο της σκέψης και αποσύρονται οι αισθησιακές εντυπώσεις και εικόνες; Ο Πλάτωνας, ο Αριστοτέλης και ο Πλωτίνος μίλησαν για αυτή τη μέθοδο ως *pure consciousness* (i.e. pre-cognitive consciousness)! Ο Καντ δεν ακολουθεί τον Πλωτίνο; Τι νομίζεις;

Amazing synopsis but I constantly suffer from these preconceived notions on religion. ‘You don’t need a religion to understand morality’ True, religion itself states that at least Islam does. It says that you already know 2 things: a. you already know the difference between good and bad i.e. morality. b. you already know/have a sense of higher power running all this universe around you. 🤷‍♂️ It would be great if Kant had studied religion comparatively as well, Religion actually states morality and then says, all what we’re(God) doing is ‘ehtamam e hujjat’ = removal of excuse, that you don’t have an excuse later on, that we (humans) weren’t explicitly told what morality was, religion is there to, something we call in modern corporate world as ‘manage expectation’, to communicate upfront.
